Looking for input on radio/CD player location. What are your opinions as to where to put an aftermarket radio? I am thinking about mounting it just under the dash panel (right under the orig. location). This way i do not have to cut the hole bigger, or smash the back of the radio up against the duct work.

Like i said, just looking for peoples 2 cents or past experiences and why or why not put it in certain places.

Thanks !

OH, it is an '83 Scrambler

Get a Tuffy console and put it in there. It'll safe, secure and not get damaged by the weather.

If you look around at the hod rod suppliers, you can find a really nice looking "box" that you can mount under the dash to hold your radio. In fact, I just found the web site. http://www.hotrodproducts.com/RadioBoxes.htm
And, as a thought, if you were to go with the wider one, it would give a good place to mount a guage or two if needed or some switches..... Hope that helps.

I'm with John 100%. Tuffy console with a radio hole. THEN get yourself a 'marine' radio from www.crutchfield.com as they have a few to choose from. They are engineered to withstand moisture and will last plenty long in your Jeep. Alternately, a cheapie will cost less to replace if it fails. :)

I made a box out of MDF panels and covered it with vinyl similar to my seats. I looked great before I tore my Jeep apart...one thing though, my passenger seat pivots forward to gain access to the area behind the seat. I originally put the box directly under the factory radio and the seat would hit it when pivoting it forward. I later moved the box to a more cenral location (centered on the "hump") and it worked much better.

Sincerely,

Go with Tuffy ! they are manufactured here in Colorado, by americans period. I know the owner and most of the employees. I'm guessing that most of the other boxes/consoles are from asia somewhere.
