Well it's time to get the rocker moldings in shape. My question is what was stock. I've read that they were painted black and I've read that some came silver. The one I got with my jeep was silver with black faded on the bottom and the one I had to buy outside was painted black.

I'd like for the experts to weigh in on this. Keep in mind this isn't a 100 point restoration or a 71,000 all original barn find. I'm refreshing it to be a very respectable driver but not a trailer queen.
I'll be making new T Bolts as well so of you need some made just let me know.
Thanks for the responses.

I heard both stories and I've seen pictures of them both ways. I'm not totally sure which is correct or if both are correct. I personally like the silver aluminum look. If you write up a good post on how you go about refinishing yours along with photos I can make it a tech article and add it to our tech area.

My 84 Laredo came with black molding from the factory, but I understand that silver was also available.

BTW I've also read that the black ones were anodized... not painted.

I went through every photo I have of old Jeep Scrambler ads and every one of them only show black rocker molding. In fact, the only silver rocker molding I could find was '77-'80 CJ-7's. This still does not mean it wasn't offered, I just haven't found a picture of it. If you are not doing a 100% OEM restoration, I think you would be ok going with whatever you liked the best.

My 81 came silver. From the years of use, dings etc, I went ahead and painted mine satin black to match the fender flares. If you decide to paint use a good self ecthing epoxy primer. That will hold on to aluminum like nails and give the paint a good substrate. You may look into powder coating them.

I got a price locally of $150 to anodize them!!!!!!!
I think I'm going to go that route.........anodized, it's a no brainer.

What color are you going with? Be sure to post pics when you get them done.

I haven't decided yet. I'll have to see what their silver looks like as well as their black. I'll post up when finished though. Thx to all.
