Got my "gold shield" cover yesterday from carcover.com. I haven't completely unfurled it yet, just opened it to look at the material.

First impresssion, it's heavier than the cover I got 20 years ago from JC Whitney for $60 or so, but still pretty light/flimsey for a "lifetime" cover.

From the reviews, only the top panels are waterproof, the side panels are not. The warranty will be honored, but the buyer pays shipping on replacement covers, so not exactly a "free replacement".

So, bottom line, if a Jeep is parked out in the elements, this probably won't last long at all, and isn't a great value. If you have the Jeep parked under any sort of cover (carport, for example) then it will offer some protection. Mine ended up being about $125 after discounts etc, so not a horrible value, but certainly not a "great deal" either.

I figure that $60 on that JC Whitney cover 20 years ago would be a $150 cover now with the destruction of our currency, so this appears to be a better cover than the one I got back in the day, which was paper thin. This one doesn't have much in the way of thickness, so the 5 layers must be the thickness of single ply toilet paper, but the cover is heavier than the old one I had.

The other thing to consider is, more than likely any cover that one buys these days is going to be similarly thin and not offer much protection, unless one wants to spend big bucks on a custom job.
 
FWIW after BW's recommendation I called the very nice guy at gr8tops to order one of these. He didn't have any in stock so I went with the Rain Gear cover. It's been 5 years and never had a drop of water inside and even fits over the top rails when they're laid down on the tailgate side. I never go anywhere without it and a bikini top (for the Jeep Lol) and it saved my bacon lots of times.

I’d definitely go with a waterproof cover and make sure it’s sized for the half top rather than just the body. Look for a heavy duty material with UV protection, reinforced seams, and good tie down straps so it stays put in the wind. I’d check Jeep specific suppliers first, but there are also some decent options on Amazon and similar sites without spending a fortune. A breathable waterproof cover would be ideal so you don’t trap moisture underneath it.
