SCRAMBLER hood decal set group buy

My sets showed up yesterday.
Have not opened them yet.
 
After removing all of the old ugly wording and removing the residue last night, I put the SCRAMBLER up to one side of the hood. I cannot wait to get these on. But I must be patient. Got to figure out how to remove some ghosting. Rubbing compound? I know that I son't want to rewax anything before putting the new ones on, right?

Yes Jim. Heck. I would say the same about you based on the amount of work being done to that black beauty in your garage (the CJ of course).

Hello all,

I finally got my decals in today, I ordered 4 sets. 2 in charcoal, 2 in black. Not to be a holiday grinch, but in my charcoal package, I did not receive any 'Jeep' tailgate decals. In my black package, I did however receive them. Were they only available in black? Has anyone else encountered this issue? I tried calling but I assume they're closed for the holidays.

Also, I have 20/20 vision and i honestly cannot discern any difference WHATSOEVER from the charcoal or black even after peeling back the protective wrapping. Are they supposed to be black and the reflect differently under light or what? If anyone has a set of both that they would be willing to take a picture of, that would be amazing. Thanks.
 
The charcoal should have a sort of goldish look to it in the the light when you view it from different angles.

I believe the black is more of a black/white transition.
Lemme look and see if I have any samples of the black. Be right back...
 
I don't have a sample of the black. I'll call them tomorrow and see what the deal is. Shoot me a pm with your info and I'll call Molly and get it figured out. I've sent an email to Molly. Hopefully she's in tomorrow. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from her/get ahold of her.

The charcoal is technically 3M 680 series and glows gold with a transition to silver at direct light contact. The black is Avery HV High Visibilty Reflective-Black and glows silver. The two are very close when the letters are small. Rispony, Molly is in the office today if you want to give her a call regarding the tailgate letters. There won't be a problem with the tailgate letters if you didn't get them.

What do you guys think of them? Good for $31? I'm happy with mine, but that may be just because they're done!

Agreed. I assume that they will last a long time once installed as well.

Question about installation. I assume I need to peal off the brown paper. Then is there a part that needs to be peeled off of the back in order to stick the letters to the Jeep. Then peal the clear plastic off and the letters stay on the Jeep? Just don't want to screw it up once I get to it (and after it warms up a bit).

You should have three parts. A masking tape like cover, the actual decal, then a white paper backing. The masking tape cover keeps the letters in the correct position while you apply them.

So... You peel the white paper backing off first. (you should now be looking at the sticky side of the decals, which are still stuck to the masking tape backer.) You use whatever procedure you want to apply the whole thing as one big decal then pull off the masking tape backer leaving only the decals on the jeep.

Make sense?

They're supposed to be "Engineer Grade" and are supposed to last at least eight years in the elements, think street sign. Normal vinyl starts to degrade in two according to people I've talked to that install it.
 
Does anyone have experience clear coating over decals I'd like to make these things permanent if it's possible. Is this a good idea or should I plan to just replace them in 8 years
 
Honestly, I think I'd just buy a couple sets and swap them out if they started getting funky. You'd have a lot more in clear coating a $31 set of decals than you'd have in two or three sets.
