Side Rails and Roll Bar Mounted Spare.

I bought someone else's project '84 CJ-8 that started as a frame up. It was in pieces, and a lot of missing parts. All parts are not original for this Jeep. Example, the bed has holes for side rails, but the roll bar does not.

I'm thinking of putting rails on because the few CJ-8's around here do not have them so I could stand out in my little world. My current question is (finally got here) what years were the side rails available?

My second question is what years was the roll bar spare mount available? My roll bar is made for that, but not the side rails. Thanks for sharing knowledge.

I believe the side rails were an option throughout production, but were much, much more common in 81 and 82 - maybe AMC was cranking them out thinking people would like them only to find out that market research showed otherwise. The rollbar mounted spare was available sometime in the late 82/early 83 model year. Scramblers with both are out there, but fairly rare.

My ‘82 is a late widetrac version, it had the roll bar mounted spare, lap belts only, and no side boards.

Also a 4 cyl with T-5 transmission, and steel poverty wheels.

Take it for what it is worth.
