I have read a lot about replacements for the steering boxes on the Scrambler. Has anybody done this recently and what box did you use that is currently available? Also, there is a mention about a stronger bracket. Where can I get that? Im asking for part numbers and websites because Im sure some of you have already done this replacement and can direct me in the right direction.

Do they bolt right in with no modifications?

My stock steering box bolted to the MORE bracket with no issues, and came with all the needed hardware, too. That bracket is definitely a stout item, a significant upgrade from the stock configuration.

I am also using a MORE bracket. There is one hole that needs to be drilled in the front crossmember, other than that it bolts up. The hole is easy to drill- straight down for a 3rd mounting bolt.

in the instructions, it mentions cutting a crossmember. Did you have to do this?

I didn't need to cut my cross member during installation- only needed to drill the third mounting hole that Randy mentioned.

They make two versions of their HD steering box mount. One that keeps the box in the stock position and one that moves it 1.25” forward. With the one that moves it forward, a small notch needs to be cut in the front crossmember. If you don’t have a bigger front axle swapped in or some crazy suspension mods, the mount that leaves the box in the factory position should be fine and doesn’t require anything but just bolting it in.

You do still need to drill a hole in the top of the crossmember for either version of the mount.

I have a steering box bracket from rusty’s off-road. I accidentally ordered two of them 6 months apart and found the old one after install. PM me if interested, I’ll make you a deal.

You only have to notch the crossmember if you use the mount that moves the box forward 1”.
