Hello, again, all. I am looking for a replacement shift indicator for my Scrambler (automatic). This is the plastic and metal-tabbed piece that snaps on the top of the steering column with "P R N D.." on a clear plastic part of it. Mine broke off some years ago and I would like to replace it. Anyone know where I can get one or what other vehicles might be an easy doner? Thanks again in advance.

Sincerely,
Valkster

Just about any GM/Chevy vehicle with 3 speed auto column shift should work. Chevy blazer is a good example.

Thanks for the quick reply...I'll mosey on down to the junkyard and find a doner.

Thanks,
Valkster

Please keep me posted...I also need one (black). I would like to buy new, but have had no luck.

Is it the same on an 81 Wagoneer? If so, I have one I was going to throw away....

I'll pull it before the scrap yard picks it up on tuesday.

Hello, Randyzzz. I am sorry for checking my post so late. Did you salvage this part and is it still available?

Thanks,
Valkster

Yep, I did. You are talking about the part that mounts to the top of the column, I got the plastic piece with the clear insert that has the gear position engraved into it. I did not get the metal clip that holds the light. Hope this is what you want-

It's the piece being held, not the piece with the arrows pointing to it.

That's it...Mine had a broken metal clip, too, but I think that part can be fashioned from sheetmetal. I'll email you if that's OK to work out details?

Sincerely,
Valkster

I had a gut feeling you might need the clip too- so I got up early and pulled it and the light before going to work. I'll get your address from the e-mail.

Steering column shift indicator...

Thanks, again, Randy. My personal email has been acting strange this week. Please contact me again on what I need to do for your trouble. I appreciate it.

I was just going to send it USPS to the address you sent. If you want, just make a donation to your local animal shelter or to the Blue Ribbon Coalition. You don't need to send me anything. Just glad I could help out.

Thanks much, Randy. I will make a donation to the animal shelter...I have a "pound" cat myself. He's the most affectionate cat I have ever had and gets along with the dogs very well. He's very tolerant, too...my one year old son drags him around and plays with him like the abominable snowman with Daffy Duck in the old cartoons ("I will hug him and pet him and I will name him George"). He just purrs and takes it as fun. I guess cats even remember their past. Anyway, sorry to ramble, thanks for the part!

Sincerely,

Man, that is exactly what I need too...does anyone else have a spare or know where I can buy one new?

Shift Column indicator TF999

Thanks, Randy! I got the indicator today. Looks great. It is a little different than the original on mine but I think it will work fine. I appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Good! Sorry it took so long- we've been doing a kitchen remodel and your box got mixed in with the mess.

Good luck!

Also, since it hasn't been mentioned, Check out places like Flaming River and Ididit. Since they make a lot of street rod products, they have some pretty interesting options available. It won't be stock looking (so don't look for restoration peices), but it will be functional. HTH anyone with an auto.
