Technical Extrications (worst stuck)

WOW! crazy. goes to show you that you never know what will happen. Good job with the recovery. Glad everyone got out of the Jeep safely before it went down. I've read stories about people with kids that rolled into water and were not able to get their kids out. very scary.

On a side note... everyone should have a seat belt cutter visible and within reach in all vehicles. You never know if your seat belt or your passenger's seat belt will release in an emergency situation. And no, a knife is not a good option, good way to stab yourself.
I have one in my 8 and my LJ, mounted with Velcro on my center console.

I did this to an enterprise rental
Wrangler in 2003 in the glamis sand dunes area, California. Once the front left tire caught the vegetation the right tire headed towards the center of the earth. Had to call in a 4x4 tow truck to the tune of $250. It was summer time and not one other single 4x4 passed me in 2 hours. I hiked an hour to use a land line to call. Will dig up pics of the tow.

The recovery didn't happen until the channel had shifted, at which point the only thing sticking above the gravel was part of the windshield frame and some of the rollbar. None of the pictures are online anymore. Although I wasn't present for either the floating or the digging, I am friends with parties involved in both.

This just happened last month, and I was involved in the recovery on the first night:

The lead (blue) XJ came out without a front axle on the first night by winching (with a moose buggy) from the adjacent shore. The JK was removed under VERY sketchy conditions the following day; it was the "least" stuck though, and just needed an extraction from the rear. We waited for the ice to freeze more solidly again before attempting to remove the white XJ, but vandals and thieves got to it first: the roof rack was stolen, the snorkel was cut (why????), someone had cut some ice around it and winched it forward (into deeper water) and bent a fender, and multiple body panels had pick holes in them. Aside from the vandalism, it came out in one piece. There was a guy in a wetsuit, and a couple of moose buggies. Essentially, two logs were cut and used as ramps to get it back on top of solid ice.

These were taken by a buddy of mine from Fairbanks last summer:

Thankfully nobody died. The vehicle filming is on 54" TTC Baja Claws, and is one of the tallest off-road vehicles (aside from things like dedicated heavy equipment, actual agricultural tractors, specialized remote drilling rigs, etc.) currently running around Alaska. He had water running through his floorboards when he was in the deepest spot during the recovery.

I remember watching the first video a few years ago. crazy...

I found the two other pics of the above story. I recall that the rental TJ from Hertz had about 3000 miles on it and I took it to a car wash to get all the sand off the top of the engine before I returned it.

Man, what's left of that can't be worth much.....

Just a quick hit with the power washer and she'll be set to go!

Geez; I'm not sure that was worth to labor to extricate!
