Under hood insulation

Did AMC use under hood insulation? My 1981 Scrambler Laredo has black spots on the underside of the
hood. Someone must have installed insulation there at one time. Just wondering if it was an option, if dealers
did that, or if someone just wanted to keep the noise down. No better source of AMC info than here.

Yes they did. Not sure if it was an option or standard, but I know my Laredo had it when new.

Well while we are in the hood area, did jeep come with a hood-to-cowl rubber seal to keep the rain and weather out of the engine compartment on the cj's. ....or is that little channel on the metal tubs for that reason? Because I don't ever remember seeing one back there. And if they do, would they have something out there that could work on fiberglass to fiberglass? things that make you go mmmmm.

No seal back there that I've seen, but there is a rubber bumper below each hinge that help stop vibration/rattling.

It was part of the Extra Quiet Insulation Package. That package included: front, rear, cargo, tailgate, wheelhouse, and inner side panel carpeting; cargo floor retainer molding; belt line molding; front protection mats; and hood insulation. It was optional on Renegades and Laredos.
