Is the ribbed windshield frame original on the red one?

Your talking about the $29K red SL one right ? Great eye!! No way could that be original, something definitely fishy there either the frame replaced it rusted out or a tree fell on it or the whole jeep has been redone.

I keep thinking about all the rust flakes that would be in my beer.

believed to be a 1948 CJ5 grill.
could be used to restore an old jeep but would need to be cleaned up quiet a bit.
my idea was to use it as an art piece by installing some lights and hanging it over a bar or something similar.

Agreed. Ive seen people go that nuts for a jeep stamped one but as an early replacement not so much. Still an amazing condition, hard to find example.

Folks, watch the movie Idiocracy and this will explain why prices for some of this stuff is going sky-high--people are lazy and brain dead, at least some.

As for the NOS stuff, it is getting tougher to find and as a result prices are rising..... I just wouldn't want to ever us it unless the goal was to restore and spin the vehicle. Why? Because I currently have a 29K 78 Camaro original down to the tires and I drove it and got a small chip in the original paint and I mourned for a day. What's the fun in having anything pristine unless for an investmenet that sits....

I do the opposite with NOS, I put it on my keeper jeeps. If I was selling one, 9 out of 10 buyers would not care that the dash gauges are Chinese or the push pull cables last 3 days. I hear ya Dave and I think we are on the same page as far as originality and mourning. :). And as far as having fun, I run my 82 Laredo about 100 miles a year to keep things fresh and others get careful driving at a better rate. This morning I took the tan CJ with 130k on it and a rattle can paint job. Mainly because it was 6 degrees and inside..

A Jeep or car is made to drive. If you are scared to drive it, it is an investment.
