1981 scrambler build 3 link

Amazing build and your attention to detail is unreal. I feel like a wimp on my build compared to the fabrication you have put into this. Can't wait for the next segment. I will be following

wow thanks alot @TFDScrambler i guess coming from a background in engineering it helps lol....... i hope you like the end

.............GOOD NEWS.............

THE HOMEWRECKER IS ALIVE

I had an extra fuel pump just laying around in the garage from my old 85 ranger and I've used that same pump on my buddy's jeep......... so i connected it all up and the pump worked and got fuel to the rail but she didn't want to fire, so i remembered that that pump was still under warranty, and it still didn't want to fire. at that point i just wanted to shoot myself lol, when a friend moved up north to Sacramento he gave me a few extra parts so that he didn't have to throw them away, and one part he gave me was a ECU, cause extra jeep parts a plus in my book lol............. i disconnected my ECU and put the one he gave me up and the ***** fired up............ NOW all i need to do if find to do is run brake lines, trans lines, and find a good used old trans to see if she'll move lol

i was going to make the rear tube flares for the scrambler but then i saw how cheap the Smittybilt one are............. to bad they don't have a larger flare..... need to do some trimming to make them fit better

well last week i got my drive shafts from the Ed Moore Drive Line in San Bernardino...... i wanted to go with a 2" .188" DOM for my drive shafts but after talking to them i just went with .120" instead i took them 2 shafts form a Cherokee and they shortened the one rear and lengthened the front.......... grand total was $257 cheap as HELL....... and of course its all 1310 spicer u-joints

also i got a new weld, didn't know what i wanted to get at first but then i got an e-mail from Eastwood and they where having a sale on there welder and the reviews were really good so i did it, and i got the cart from good old harbor freight i like that i can put my helmet and all my consumables in one spot

love the rear fenders... were the old ones removed in good shape? If you wanted to sell either the old ones or some of your new style I'm in. One question.. when you are designing your metal parts that interlock for assemble/welding ... what clearance do you leave in your design for the slip fit?

the old ones did not make it i had to put them down lol........... one i took the old fender wells off i didn't fill the need to keep them so when i was removing them i didn't cut them off very well but maybe we can talk about the new style i made..... :D well for the clearance it depends on what parts they are..... for the lower link mounts to the frame i think i left about .03" - .06" (1/32" or 1/16")..... for the front bumper i tried to leave .06" after it was finished it was dead nuts to what i needed to be........ pmed you

What type of parking lights are those? they look great

thanks..... the the front parking lights are just 2" led trailer lights from O'reillys....... the reason why i went with them and not with the factory is when i moved the frame up 3" i also shortened the grill 3", i also made the grill

hoping to have the rear from mounted to the body soon..... have anymore question just ask

for the past couple night i did some work, i tied in the cage to the crush corners........... i still need to counter sink the heads and added gussets

made this bracket to hold the heater valve, i love making custom stuff lol

thanks @surfjeepzx i hope didn't bore you at all......... lol
Not bored at all. I think it's great you have the skills to do what you are doing to your own Jeep and your workplace allows you to design and fabricate in house. That thing will be able to crawl straight up a power pole when its' done. Great work!

THANKS FOR THE GREAT COMMENTS....... i still need to do the 4 link to the rear but ill do that when my son is older so i can tech him, so i have a long............. time to wait lol

Great work. Just read through the whole thread. Love seeing the custom design. I'll be starting my own project later this year so I'm doing lot's of dreaming and planning. Did you draw up the solidworks model of the tub yourself? It looks great, any chance you'd be willing to share the file?

Can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Now I feel guilty about my valve just hanging inline, too...

Excellent fab work!

thanks............ remember measure 3 times cut once lol yes the tube was designed in solidworks but for some reason there's some bugs still in it lol maybe it was done on a Monday or a Friday lol keep posted ill post what ever i do next

did some more work on the 8 this weekend, didn't know if i wanted to do this cause the ability to put the window down is kid of cool,....... what am i saying i dont think ill never put the windshield down, so i cut off the hinges

Interesting, don't think I've ever seen anyone do that. Reminds me that I need to work on the bolts in my hinges/frame.

Do you want to go to something other than those old Torx if you're going to rely on getting them out should you need to remove the windshield?

i think im going to go with 3 different options, countersunk allen head, allen button heads of good old hex head............
