LOL, see that plane on the wall above the Jeep? 1:18 scale Ultimate Warrior by 21st Century Toys. They are out of business now.

Back about 10 years ago I was walking through Wally World and see a P47D model in about "GI Joe size". $40. I thought "that's really cool, but not $40 cool for a toy"

Then a few weeks later they were on closeout for $20. I looked on ebay and found they were going for $70-80, so I bought 3-4 of them and flipped them for a little Jeep parts money.

Fast forward a few weeks, and I discovered that there were many many different paint schemes, with some being rare, and Wal Mart's distrbution was all over the place with them. For example, the ME109 in snow camo was super rare in most of the US.

I was traveling all over creation with my old job at the time so I'd stop in every Walmart I saw looking for rare planes or closeouts. The dept managers hated them because they took up all kinds of room on the toy aisles, so I found them as cheap as $5 each (got two Walmart carts full at that particular Walmart). Sold them on ebay for anywhere from $30-200 each depending on the rarity and demand.

I still have about 8-10 of them at my house on display. My grandfather ran a primary flight school during WWII and flew B29's off of Tinian during the latter months of the war, so I grew up with a love of WWII aircraft. Those planes funded Christmas one year for my family and paid for a lot of Jeep parts over a couple of years.

That is a great story! I love model cars and still have a lot of them. I love WWII planes as well but I have to limit collections somewhere!

Awesome story! I just liked the cool setup and thought it would make a cool man cave... I could use some good fortune like that right about now for my Jeep funding!

The wife doesn't mind the planes (I actually have a prop off of one of the trainers (PT19 IIRC) from the primary school hanging on my den wall) because she knows about my relationship with my grandfather and we live in the house he and my grandmother built after the war, but I think she'd draw the line at a flattie TV stand!
