Sweet pic. And .. I think we are getting close. Is that a neighboring area of APO , AE? Or was that taken in your hometown ? It looks like how APO, AE looks in my dreams.

When I think APO AE, I think ships.
 
Perhaps parts of Alaska Extreme are. Like similar to areas of the UP of MI. So far out there you just don't know.


 
I have been wondering for a very long time. Maybe you are onto something. Is an APO an anonymous post office ? Like what a ship would have. Not on land. So it just floats yet is always on the move.

Here is a jeep pic too, A set of rims on their way to a NJ Laredo owner.

Now back to getting ready for the JHE at OCJW.

What does "APO" mean?
"APO" stands for "Army Post Office". It is normally followed by a number which serves as a code for a particular military unit or installation. APOs were often mobile, and moved with the units to which they were attached. Thus, a cover with an APO cancellation could have been mailed from any of several different locations, depending on the date. Other abbreviations that mean basically the same thing are MPO (Military Post Office) and BFPO (British Forces Post Office).

Military addresses must show the grade, full name with middle name or initial, and PSC number, unit number, or ship name. Replace the city name with "APO " or "FPO," and the state with "AA," "AE," or "AP," and use a special ZIP Code."

Being a military kid, I just assumed people know what it means. Sorry Eric. I thought you were kidding earlier. But yes, as mentioned above it is a military address so that the mail gets to the personnel using the USPS standards
 
OH my. Why couldn't SKT just say that. I been asking him for a year or more. But I refused to use the interwebs :bacon:


 
OMFG people! Alaska has zipcodes (the whole state), we are part of the United States of America, admitted to the Union in 1959 complete with two U.S. Senators and a voting member of the House of Representatives. We have a normal area code (907) for the whole state, and shipping or traveling here does not require customs (unless you drive through Canada). There's even cell service in most of the populated communities in rural Alaska now. Flat-rate USPS shipping applies.

Does Alaska still have any military bases? Just wondering as there have been a lot of closures.

Yup. Just had a presentation at my Rotary club today about the economic impact of our major bases.

Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson is home to an F-22 squadron (I can see one of the approaches from my office), and Eielson AFB (in Fairbanks) is about to get the F-35s. We also have Fort Wainwright. Lesser installations include Clear AFS, Fort Greely, and numerous Coast Guard installations. Even the Navy has a small presence for training purposes (even after Adak NAS closed).

The Russians have been flying their Bears closer in the last few years:

AK RWC I love Alaska as much as I love your attention to AMC Jeep detail / trivia / history. Was just kidding. I been poking at SKT in a while that we have no idea where he is or what he has yet he posts so many pics. We love him tho, don't get me wrong. Just having fun. :wave:
