So I've chopped 13" off my Scrambler and want a full soft top. Any suggestions?

How close would an lj (tj unlimited) top be to the correct size?
The YJ is 24" shorter than the Scrambler, so subtracting his 13" from the 24" extra length of the Scrambler, a YJ top would have to be lengthened 11" at the bottom into a fastback top. The wedges you describe would have to be 11" wide at the bottom, and the rear curtain will also have to be lengthened as you said.Lots of suggestions here. Nothing is going to fit without some modification. Easiest would be YJ top frame which is 5" shorter than your bobbed eight. Find another piece of lower channel to extend the bottom on the bed. Without modifying the upper part of the top, the back will have 5 more inches of slope. The rear quarter pieces will need to either be made new or have the 5" wedges sewn into them. The rear curtain will need to be lengthened to travel the extra distance. A good upholstery shop should be able to fit the new quarters and extend the back window for you. And with the YJ half doors, you can choose the uppers with sliding windows if you like them better. I put a YJ top and half doors on the last CJ7 is sold because they fit and seal so nice.
Another CJ-8 lost forever.![]()
[emoji6]Thanks for the compliments! I see Scramblers from time to time and sometimes wish I would've left the length stock in my bed. But what's done is done.I see much of this Scrambler that is not lost, and I think it's a great rig. I like the idea of a custom top, we all love to weld and cut top frames and metal things , it just takes a little extra skills and cajones to bust out Moms sewing machine. Can't wait to see what you come up with[emoji6]
Gonna need to give the windshield frame a haircut..... but here is the beginning:Thanks for the compliments! I see Scramblers from time to time and sometimes wish I would've left the length stock in my bed. But what's done is done.
Update. I scored a half soft top from a wrangler LJ. Also got a bikini top from a tj with header. I'll post pics later.
Meant to add that I got a black (matching) tj soft top. So I'm thinking of either sewing or vinyl-welding the tj top to the back portion of the half soft top or the opposite. But I definitely want the fast-back (angled) - or whatever they call it - look when finished. Thanks for the compliments! Hahaha!I bet if you took a decent YJ top to a boat cover guy in the off season they could do a reasonable stretch job

They made a half softie for the LJ and Scrambler. Unlike the Scrambler, whose soft top terminated at the bulkhead, the LJ's tied into a truck-bed-cover (which I also have.)Didn't even know there was such a thing. Wonder how much modification it would take to make it like a standard Scrambler half soft top? Did they also make one for a TJ?
