I love the comfort of my seats and do not want to switch to new seats. I also want to do something a little more custom than seat covers. Therefore, I am thinking about having the two high backs and the rear tilt/fold reupholstered to match. Have two quotes. One is for $900 and another for $1,150. Both include piping and re-build if needed. I am wondering if a few of you guys who have had this done could comment on what you believe to be a fair price. Thanks

Just checked them out, and your right...$430 bucks and a factory look. They say they are made to order. Thinking about asking if they can do something to customize, like using different color thread, or embroidering a small CJ8 logo on them. I will ask and post finding here. In mean time, if someone has already asked, let me know. Thanks again!!

I got samples from a place called "seats shop" on amazon. They do leather covers in Laredo style that are $299 a set. They also do other custom stlyles and the samples looked good.

Just heard back from Ebay seller and they will do different color thread - however, no returns. They can not do embroidery.

I've had those on my watch list for a while. I wish they had denim fabric in colors other than blue and black.

FWIW, I had some seats recovered a few years ago at a local mom/pop auto upholstery shop. IIRC, they charged about $150 per seat and they came out looking fantastic with only a 2-3 day turn around. Best part was they had swatch books that combined to more than 500 options of fabric/vinyl/leather in about every imaginable color and texture.

I did autointeriorkits from eBay as well (I might have ordered direct from them; I don't remember at this point) and was reasonably pleased. They sent me some sample swatches for free to pick a custom material that was a little thicker. Pics are in my build thread.

VERY minor complaints: 1) on the backseat the bolsters on each side ended up a little "loose" feeling. This could easily be remedied with some stuffing/padding, but more importantly since my fold-and-tumble was actually from a YJ, I don't know that I can actually blame the upholstery shop. 2) The OEM upper covers on the front seats had little flaps that got tucked into the lower portions. These flaps were missing on the kits. It's only noticeable if you're below the seat and right next to it looking up, in which case you see a little bit of the seat foam.

I would definitely buy the autointeriorkits again.

SMS Auto Fabrics in Canby, OR has the nutmeg denim vinyl. Their prices always scare me, but they do have some rare older uph materials.

The foam in our old original seats has been compressed over the years and has become a little smaller than when new. You can either add some foam to the top surface of the bolsters or a layer of white dacron padding. I've used autointeriorkits and they look nice. At the rear of the bottom cover there are some short flaps that stick up into the bottom of the backrests and cover the metal brackets. Either the bottom cushion needs to be a little stiffer/taller or those flaps need to be taller (the easiest fix) so they don't pull out of the backrest when you sit on the seat. The next time I have them do seats for me I'll ask for those to be taller. It's not worth my time to make the covers when they can make them at their price.
