SJScrambler - Getting Started

1986 Jeep CJ7 Laredo project someone gave up on.
Those are 36x12.5x15 swampers on there and those shackles are quite long.
The body was attempted to be replaced, but it is a loss... frame looks really nice.
I got all the Laredo goodies as well that had been dry stored.
Got it running last night, but now what to do...

I have to go back and get a few more boxes of parts and the hard top.
It ended up pouring and was 35 degrees... miserable conditions... but got it done.
The interior is pretty nice as I think the hard top was on the whole time (or a lot of it).

I will tear it down and get back to the work on the cab for the truck now that the weather has turned and I no longer have so much to do outside.

The "big" news is on hold until the new year... stay tuned.

With all the snow... literally shoved everything I could into the shop so the truck could go in as well and not get tons of snow on it...

Teardown is going along... until I saw this.... why?

Double side sticky tape is inexpensive and takes way less effort... shame too, that was in nice shape.

All the metal went to the recyclers as well so far and the rest put away... really made a dent yesterday... so now I can relax for a day!

Are you wanting to run the older style heater? Seems like alotta work if your cowl is good as is for the later more common box? Hmm? :unsure:

No, just the smooth cowl look from the top... I have never liked the plastic bump up, I liked the recessed metal caste piece from the 76-77... but to your point, the heater sucks... so I want the new heater setup, with the old look on the outside.

The problem is how the heater attaches to the cowl... you have to put it in place and screw it down... and then you end up with a double set of screws, which I also don't want... so I am trying to figure out if this is possible really now without going into too much work on this.

Doesn't the bump up one shed water a little better in theory? I agree the flush mount looks much better, but it seems it would be more prone to take in water running across the hood and cowl. However, I say all of this yet TJ's had it stamped flush into the cowl.....but also had water pooling issues. Maybe consider wire mesh beneath the grate to help prevent the drain lines from clogging with organics....?

Just thinking out loud... Anxious to see the solution as you always do stellar work.

Definitely needs a screen, I have that on my CJ5.
As for water pooling, that is an interesting point, although the drain should take care of that as long as there are no organics as you mentioned.

Headed out early yesterday morning in 15 degree weather to pick up what was left of an 83 Scrambler... it has snowed a couple inches over night and by the time I got home it was blowing 20mph and windchill was down to around zero... been a while since it was that cold as the winter has been pretty mild the last few weeks.

PS> That is the dirtiest slate blue seat I have ever gotten... I took it for the top material, the bottom and frame are gone.
