Yeah, but one of my goals is to use off the shelf parts so down the road repairs will be easy.

And…it was all worth it. I have plenty of clearance now.

That still falls in “off the shelf” parts…and a hacksaw. 740110F2-F832-449C-AB31-3B3CF07C084B.jpegMan, she looks good. I don’t want to take her apart again. And I’m cussing myself for not finding OEM fenders. The drivers side fit perfectly, the passenger side was a struggle and I still can’t get the bottom front bolt to line up with the grill. Everything measures and levels out. Except that.

I got a pair of Mishimoto hoses for the LJ and was crazy impressed with them. If you’re going for a hard bend, I’d think something like this would have you situated better long-term. Just eyeballing hoses on their site and picked one that had that kind of bend, no clue in diameters or anything obviously...

Success proved. I got the belt tensioner spaced out and mounted up, got a new alternator, and installed the belt. Looks perfect. Pics show the clearances. This is the most compact front drive possible using the truck brackets. 08331668-1A96-4BA4-AAD9-CA2DCD022703.jpegB814F52F-4B56-4D8D-ABE4-17972A499870.jpegB3AC26C1-35CA-408B-BCBB-6A17D34BE44C.jpeg

A little detour…ever since seeing the red Scrambler with white wheels at the car lot in Bend last summer, I have regretted selling my factory white spokes. Then seeing the final result of Rubclt’s gorgeous Project Blue with the white wheels and white roof, I have been even more regretful. And today while surfing the ‘net, I found the low mile garnet/white Scrambler that Dennis Collins sold. Wow.

So- if all goes as planned, I managed to get another set of white 15x8 wheels. They’re not in my possession yet but 🙏🏻. I’m going to re-powder coat them, and then also paint the hardtop white. My question now is…interior color. After seeing that garnet interior on Dennis Collins’ Scrambler, I’m seriously considering going full tilt red. My other option would be a tan interior to bring in the color of the wood side boards. Way do you all think?

Pics because…they’re beautiful!60199C41-F229-4829-8483-DDB54F942E3E.jpeg27DFC2FC-BD6B-4D2F-9714-3C9F9FA0C82D.jpegF57F9036-115A-4EE5-AC46-FAADAF821E5F.jpegAE5279EF-D8F9-4855-8C92-27F9A95B720B.jpeg7FBDE7E3-A7FC-4FBB-87B5-FAEE26BBC9F2.jpeg

Diggin the red, but you gotta love red.

Red seats and black carpet might tone it down some.

I think the tan seats would clash with the white roof.

I'm slightly partial to red and tan, but I'd want a tan top to go with it. If you're set on a white top, I think more along the lines of a red on red on white '56 Corvette, which is about the only other red interior I can tolerate (bear in mind I'm most attuned to the awful red interiors of the '90s Ford pickup trucks......ugh).

My official vote is red on red on white.

If you're planning top-off crusing, tan. Red gets really hot in the sun. Otherwise, red looks very authentic 80s andc with a white top I agree with 93.

I'm partial to the tan though....

I vote for the garnet interior. I love the red on red. But I think you could still rock the black interior with the white top and wheels, especially with black bumpers, rocker trim and mirrors.

The wood rails will be super cool too. 👍

So…suggestions. The garnet seats are normally on a deeper red metallic paint than the Oriental red. My wife, the consummate color coordinator feels the “burgundy” tone of garnet will clash with the true red of the Oriental red. So I’m probably looking at custom upholstery, or maybe even a different seat although I have gone through a lot of trouble to get factory seats which fit me so well. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good red to match Oriental red? My mind has been made up to do the red/red/white. The running joke around here is that mid-life crisis guys buy classic ‘Vettes, but I’m building my Scrambler ‘Vette. So a ‘Vette inspired color scheme is perfect!

The garnet is darn sexy, but I have to agree with your wife. Maybe go custom Laredo style with tan seats & red purse straps? Maybe even red piping?

I had originally planned on a Red and Tan color scheme. Somehow that morphed into a Red and Black, probably when I sold the white spokes and got the black aluminum wheels. I’m sort of thinking I’ll have to have the seats custom upholstered, and door panels made. Then paint the dash to match. I really need a piece of Garnet that’s unfaded to compare to the Oriental red.
