I had originally planned on a Red and Tan color scheme. Somehow that morphed into a Red and Black, probably when I sold the white spokes and got the black aluminum wheels. I’m sort of thinking I’ll have to have the seats custom upholstered, and door panels made. Then paint the dash to match. I really need a piece of Garnet that’s unfaded to compare to the Oriental red.
Try to request a sample from the guy on ebay that sells garnet seat covers for the CJ seats.

Thank you! That pic of Red Mistress’ 84 CJ-7 was just what I was looking for. I can get an idea of the contrast.
It’s interesting how different Garnet can look in different lights/shadows. I’m still thinking I need to find a piece and hold it up to my paint. My Oriental red looks so different depending on the light. Even the angle of the light source changes the color. And then comparing it to the color represented on the phone- it’a way off!

Has anyone used seat upholstery from a company called Seatzmfg? They have several different red colors available, including garnet. Also door panels, visors, and carpet. I thought I saw someone did a set recently but couldn’t find anything in search.

I emailed Seatzmfg and got this reply-

Hi Randy,
Thanks for your inquiry.
1. We do have other Red colors in Vinyl so yes.
2. We also stock some in perf for our Porsche upholstery kits
3. Yes on Visors and Door panels too. However, you would have to wait
until the next heat press run we do to get the door panels.
4. Samples - see our web site category for samples listing. Just mention
you already messaged us about Other Red's
5. Prices will be higher. We can quote when we know your choice.
6. We would set up a listing for you to buy when all the details are
worked out. Lead time is about 45 days when all is descended and paid.
Regards,
Seatz Mfg

So…I’m going to get some samples, and see what pricing is. I like that they can do matching door panels and visors in the color of my choice!

Ag4ever suggested keeping the carpet black but the rest red. I’m liking that idea, especially since the bed is Rhino lined black and the bulkhead interior is black too. Along with the floor, firewall, and rockers. What does everyone else think? That might bring together all the rest of my black trim- rocker mouldings, light bezels, door handles, mirrors, and cowl vent.

I agree. My whole interior is raptor line black. The roll bar and dash panel are gloss black (pad is tan) and the inside of the half doors is black with tan door panels. I know it's not stock to have the interior a different colour but I really like the look and how it ties everything together.

There is no situation in which I would do anything in this other than black and if you forced me to do something else, it would be tan. Never red. Too much of the same or, what would be worse, is it wouldn't be a good red to match.

Don’t know if you’re referring to the carpet or the whole red interior. I’ll be keeping the carpet black. I have 5 different color samples of upholstery coming, and I’m sure one of them will close or complimentary to the Oriental red paint. So the seats, door panels, and visors will all be the same red color. Sort of 60’s ‘Vette look.
The whole instigating event, other than not being 100% sold on the black wheels and missing the white spoke look- was being blessed to score a set of four 15x8 white spokes for free on FaceBook. When I told my wife, her first comment was “Now you need to paint the roof white”. She has mentioned it before, and I like the look of white wheels and a white roof. Looking online for red Scramblers with white hard tops led me to see the garnet/white one at Collins- and I knew I had to do the red interior- as long as I can get it to match. But red upholstery with a red carpet is really too much. So, black carpet.
When I imagined this build in my head, it was red and tan in the beginning. But my wife hates that color combo- and it is important to me that she like this Scrambler. She hated Copper and never wanted to drive in it- mostly due to its height and general obnoxious demeanor- so I’m attempting to make sure there’s no complaints this go around.

This is one of my all-time favorite ‘Vettes. If I can’t get my reds to match like this I’ll go back to black with red accents. 1B268E6C-E2C8-431C-A5FD-338403614635.jpeg3951D5D9-78F0-41E0-96DB-4357F04B81C1.jpeg

Ok, I read that differently and thought you were asking about carpet being black or not.

That being said, I’m not a fan of upholstery matching the body (I don’t like that corvette, for instance) because it’s too much of one color and too little contrast.

It’s all good, Eric. And I do realize that the red is not for everyone. There was a time when it would have been a big “No” from me. But this build is morphing from an off road vehicle to an all terrain sports car. And I think the interior will reflect that direction. So while you may never see this Scrambler on the trails, you won’t be able to miss it on the street! And for off road I still have the XJ!

Oh- look at that ‘Vette from this angle. If that doesn’t change your mind, nothing will!0D9286A8-2F84-4AF9-BC40-CAE3D329CA5B.jpeg

Didn't you just buy a black-on-black-on-black-on-black JKU?!?

Yep and I don’t like it other than the fact that it’s a black vehicle that happens to have black interior. Jeep upholstery is very commonly black, so it’s the body happening to match the interior. In that Vette, they clearly matched the interior to the body, that’s where I draw the line. Happens waaaaay too often in custom cars IMO. I cringe hard when watching Bitchin’ Rides, Overhaulin’, etc every time they do it.

I wouldn’t have ever chosen a black Jeep except that this one was every other thing I wanted so I looked past the body color. I’ve actually lobbied Kate to wrap it some other color. That would solve both my hate for black vehicles and the matching interior  Besides maroon, I don’t think there’s another Jeep color I like less than black.

Ok. There’s one other color combo I considered, but it goes straight to the street rod/60’ classic look. Totally impractical but totally classic. A245CDFD-7F6E-43A6-B136-FFF16D068EC4.jpeg

Pretty sure Red was the highest production number factory interior offering for C1's.....but I digress.

Did a little repair on the pass seat that I sold the cover off of. I gotta say, Jeep’s crappy seat construction really makes me want to find better built seats…
8E590682-7DDB-4E73-A186-D4DFA75CDDFA.jpegThis is at the front inner corner. It looks like the spot welds broke free- no jagged edges, just no weld-91F583F6-5F76-4EFD-9DA6-F5D293C85DFD.jpegSame story, rear outer corner. They’re all welded up, for now. The opposing corners breaking tends to support my theory that people use the seat to pull themselves up into the back seat ( these were out of a -7). The pull at the top combined with less than solid folding seat brackets probably broke the spot welds after many stress cycles.
I just hope the other welds are good- might not be a bad idea to beef them up while the time is right.

This afternoon Super8 dropped off the wheels that I scored. These were listed on Facebook for free, in Washington. I got a hold of the “seller” and everything just fell into place. It wouldn't have happened without the help of Super8. Many, many thanks. Here’s a couple of pictures. Don’t be fooled by the tires- they look great but the date codes look like 2000 or older…96AF7574-CC98-48CE-BFBE-C61741C67950.jpeg4 wheels , 15x8, with caps.CC05D0BA-74B2-490D-8382-036C69FE8218.jpeg

And the caps are in pretty good shape too!
