Meet Red, my 81 Restomod Build

I was thinking the trailer hub/spindle, 1/4” striping brush and one shot- a low rpm motor to drive the wheel and a stylus type setup-think record player- to hold the brush.

Got the idea here-

When the time comes will probably just mount the rim on the axle and have my son turn it. We did a set of drive shafts that way...Prep work was a little more involved..

There is a pin stripping tool that has a wheel. You can put a magnetic strip for a guide and roll a straight line. Or in your case , make something to hold the tool against the wheel and rotate it.

Which alternator are you using? My original is the ugliest thing in my engine bay right now!
It’s a stock Deco alternator for a 2004 Silverado 145 amp. Got it at OReillys with a lifetime warranty. It’s a rebuild but looks great. If that’s not enough I’ll upgrade to a Powermaster 250.

So…the first of the brake lines are bent and flared. Don’t laugh- doing brake lines is one of my least favorite things. Doing them with the body on makes it even worse. I couldn’t get the stainless lines from Inline to work with the position I wanted on the Wilwood valve, so here I am. This is the start. 298AEE2D-56B1-4CD3-B410-5FF5368711F1.jpegHere’s my home brew tight radius manual bender. 😉BF99B380-C2D6-45AC-865C-1CED44F4BAE2.jpegThe lines are the NiCop nickel-copper lines. They are so easy to bend and flare. And I’m digging the reddish tinge to the lines- goes with the paint.

What flaring tool are you using? I used to hate brake line work. Until a buddy purchased the Eastwood flaring tool. Love that thing, makes it enjoyable.

I’m using a Mastercool kit - hydraulic flare tool. It’s amazing. Makes perfect flares, plus does fuel line quick connects and 37* AN fittings. I’m just borrowing it but thinking of buying one. The Eastwood tool looks great but the Mastercool has one advantage- you can use it anywhere. Doesn’t need to be mounted.

Ha! I forgot to mention... the reason I get unlimited use of the Eastwood is that he now uses a hydraulic tool. I think it might even be a Mastercool like yours.

A milestone, and thank goodness that’s done. Yes, brake lines are finished. The NiCopp is amazingly easy to work with, I don’t think I’ll ever use anything else. And the Mastercool flaring tool made every flare perfect the first time! Here’s the pics. I think they came out fantastic- the front 2 lines follow the contour of the inner fender and everything’s secured in rubber lined stainless clamps.

What was your source?
Also planning on the NiCop brake lines.
I got both the NiCopp and the shield off Amazon. The line came from Inline Tube, the shield from The Stop Shop. Inline Tube was the only place that had .028 wall, other places were thinner. I got the armor from The Stop Shop after FedEx lost my order from In-line tube and they raised the price and wanted me to reorder instead of reshipping. I think they have also raised the price on the tubing but it was excellent quality.

Supposedly Napa can order both but Amazon was quick and easy.

Looks great!

Also like 2 or 3 days of work!

Randy- This is seriously impressive work you’ve done here. I don’t want to join the hoards of crazy boaters on the water this weekend, so I’m going to spend some time catching up on your thread. Amazing!
