I tried a jack shaft opener, it was was more trouble than I wanted to deal with. One of the major drawbacks is it does not pull the door down, so if it does not have enough weight in the vertical position it just unwinds the cables from the pulley. I tried the spring pushers mounted to the track...
These JLs drive great. My ‘23 was a Sahara and it was a smooth ride (for a solid axle suv). That was until a TRE wore and gave me death wobble. Once that was replaced it was back to smooth.
As great as the ‘23 was, my current ‘26 is just amazing. It is a Moab, so the larger wheels make it even...
For context, the 392 JL does not use the 4:1 transfer case gearing because the brakes would be to weak to stop it.
That was one of the reasons given by a engineer on the development team.
Having too deep of a crawl ratio can be bad as well, depending on the use case.
I’ve got a camper in central TX on my deer lease. I’ve tried all kinds of mice deterrence, only thing that works
1) glue traps everywhere
2) rattle snakes
I tried the bucket trap with all kinds of attractants on the wheel. The mice would go right past it and straight for the un bated glue...
I know it is not in the same price range, but I thought this would make a good trail fix welder.

It is expensive, but so are some of the engine mounted solutions.
You don’t have any metal recycling places around you? I accumulate my steel until it is time for a trip to the yard. Usually get at least a tank of gas out of the scrap each time. My best load was around $7,000. But that was when prices were way up and I was cleaning out the remains from a...
Pretty sure they applied the undercoating after the full assembly. Got that stuff all over the Overlander. Axles, brake lines, fuel lines, wire harnesses. Like a rubber asphalt mess.
I use a gastapper. It was not a cheap option, but it has come in very handy. It is noisy with the click-clack pump.
It comes with all kinds of adapters to allow bypassing the various tank fill restrictions.

That is awesome!
Have you tried the new joint in the old rod to see if the threads are compatible, or just planning to swap the whole thing from knuckle to knuckle?
The unknown is the threads and if they are the correct hand. If it is meant to be on the passenger side (LHD vehicle) then I would imagine the threads are going the wrong way. But I suspect AMC used off the shelf parts and these might be the same parts with the ends flipped on both sides, so...
Another option is to take the original tre to a welder/machinist; have them increase the diameter by welding, then machine it to the correct diameter and retap the threads.
The rails were all anodized black from the factory. They only became brushed aluminum due to years and years of sun exposure.
If you are going for original, black it is. If you are going for what looks good, all bets off, run what ya brung.
The real story is when did motortrend and car&driver become scummy car sales sites? There are more adds on the site than journalism, by far. What a trash experience.
