THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL EVENT THREAD! Visit this thread in the Midwest subforum for full information: https://www.cj-8.com/threads/sand-blast-14-july-31-aug-8-2021.51383

With people coming from Virginia and Mississippi (hopefully adding Massachusetts this year!) I just wanted to include a heads up in the main Scrambler Events subforum to let folks know that I posted the event thread for the 14th annual Sand Blast at Silver Lake, MI.

I'm biased, but it's very easily the most family-friendly Jeep event I've ever been to with the beach on Lake Michigan immediately adjacent to the OHV area. We have lots of kids, lots of non-Jeep fun, campfires, hanging out, (optional) group dinners, wrenching, wheeling, scenic rides, two-track rides and of course lots of playing in the sand and great sunsets

We have a campground where most folks stay and they reserve an area for us all, so it's a great time even when we're not out playing. Silver Lake ice cream options post-sunset are pretty great too.

Take a look and consider coming up to check it out. This event has had more attendees than the National a couple times :smokin:

I'm hoping you add Massachusetts this year to.

Trying to swing this this year! Should we reserve a camping spot now or should we wait?

What kind of gearing should we have? I have 2.73's in my Jeep now and was thinking of moving up to 4.10's or something.

Do not wait. Tell them you're with the Scrambler group when you call in.

I shuddered a bit when I read this remembering when I was rocking 2.73s and 33" tires  if you think you need different gears on-road, you'll want them in the sand too. Everything is about wheel speed and air pressure. Playing with your transmission/tcase selections can make up for some gearing issues, but ideally you should be set up well for road driving to make the best of your power in general terms.

I had the 2.73 gears with 32s the first 2 years I went. 4 low and I think 2nd gear made up for it in the sand. It was not ideal but it worked. Now that I have my 3.73s I stay in 4 high and first gear in the sand and now it's not too often I don't make it up almost any dune. So yes, you should re gear. But if you don't get to it don't let that hold you back from coming.

Was up there last weekend and dunes have definitely moved around a bit over the winter. Didn’t get too many shots with the camera out on the Dunes since I was bumming a ride. The beach looked nice though! Here are a couple of sunset pics from them campground side. Looking forward to seeing everyone this summer!
