Very cool... I used CLR on big panels for rust and it turned white... on small parts I have used evaporust and notice the rust will return after time if left untreated. Interested in your experience. I did find Loctite makes a rust neutralizer in spray can that comes out clear and turns rust black. A light coat appears to Just look clear and matches the wax look

Every nut and bolt that I put in the evaporator rust comes out extremely well but if left outside will flash rust in a matter of hours due to our high humidity in Louisiana. I did purchase something from Evaporust that is supposed to protect bare metal for up to a year from rusting so I will test that when it comes in. I plan on using that in the bed after I treat it. I also plan on either painting or doing a black oxide treatment on all of the nuts and bolts I soak.

Worked on the paint this weekend. Since this Scrambler was in a barn since 1990 it literally has/had a wasp nest or mud dauber in every hole, crack or crevice possible. Sort of like swimming in seaweed. If you know that one then you get it.
This was inside the windshield. Kept the rust out though!

Spent the last 3 days working on this Scrambler. Came out better than I expected. The bed is solid. I used rust converter on the bed lines and under the roll bar. Was trying to give it a custom patina look. All of the Evaporusting process did the job.

I removed almost everything from the body so I could wax it. I waxed everything. Inside, outside, rollbar, bulkhead, bed, etc. Still need to wax the grill and front dr fender after some pdr work. The only pieces I painted were the rockers, hood catches and hardware. Everything else I just removed the rust and sprayed the metal with rust stop. Will see how long that lasts since the Jeep will be stored inside. It’s a lot of blue so I plan on adding black Scrambler carpet to help cut it up some. I still have to reinstall a few things but overall a great weekend!

Thank you! I'm trying to keep it as original as possible. Trying not to give in and paint the spare tire stop, etc. I am having the rear bumper powder coated so hopefully it isn't too new looking when installed and stand out

Looks really nice. Decided last week while my front cap is off to try and clean it up. Never have used it but clayed my hood. Going to try some other things also. Did you use a buffer ? What wax ? Think in 35 years I have only waxed maybe 2 times in its jeep life

I used a clay bar on everything first except the decals. The clay was getting in the edges too easily. I had never used a clay bar before either but man did it work. Next, I used the 3M brand “perfect it” kit. 3 steps. I think it’s a compound then another compound then a wax or something like that. Took a while but the results were well worth it. I’ll get some better pictures today. The dark caught me quick last night.

Yes that clay really did work. From what I was reading, try to stay away from the compounds, really removes the paint. Especially if it is thin. I'm going to try Meguiars # 7 then maybe a wax. Figured I would try that first, and see what happens, and could always go with a compound later. Also doing it all by hand. Are you using a buffer with that much surface area ? Thanks

So the first step is a compound second is a polish and then third step is an ultrafine polish.
I used a 3 inch orbital machine from griots. I also have a 6 inch but I found the 3 inch was easier to maintain control since there’s not that many large panels on a CJ

Thanks for that info. If I would get one, I probably would have gotten a larger one. That makes sense.
