1983 Scrambler "STUMP JUMPER". Frame off, 5.3 Conversion.

Spankrjs..... I was trying mine with no lift, then 3 inch of lift. With more lift it probably would have worked. Well anyway I now have a rebuilt D300 with the complete Advanced Adapters kit for mounting to a 4L60E trans for sale.
Spankrjs we live close enough to meet. I would like that.

Yes, I need to get over that way:cheers::thumbsup:

I've been so busy, I don't even think I have seen JeepAddict in Baton Rouge since I dropped off "Yard Scrambler"/picked up my tan Scrambler:crazy:

One bad thing about running the Dana 300 with a 4L60 - I do not think it would be possible to "clock" the transfer case "up" for ground clearance, no way a one piece drive shaft would clear the casing. It looks like you might have more "belly" clearance with the 241:thumbsup:

The 241C has aprox. 1.1 inch more of offset and appears to clock down a couple more degrees. The 241C does have a little less ground clearance than the 300.

Powers steering solved. The stock Scrambler supply hose fit perfect and just shortened the return line. I need to order new ones now. The brake lines are now complete. The fuel lines will be complete as soon as the new in tank fuel pump gets here which should be tomorrow. It's hard to believe but I'm stuck with nothing to do since all my body is being blasted. I guess I could get the exhaust built now since I'm looking for something to do. Opps, I forgot about that cross member I need to build. Well I do have a few guns that need to be shot.

The body parts all came back from the blaster today. 2nd picture is my occasional paint room. The hatch on the ceiling is hooked up to a 42" exhaust fan

Hope they went easy on the doors. Flat panels like those take a real shine to garnet and all swelled up. Presuming your blaster used summink a little more gentle

My blaster did a fine job. He used fine sand and was gentle and loving. A couple good coats of primer and some sanding and it should be smooth as a baby's butt. No doubt soda blasting or dustless blasting would have been preferred but there just isn't anyone around here that does it anymore. The good local painters around here won't touch a car thats been soda blasted.

Doing a little body work. I sprayed one coat of etching primer on to keep it from rusting and filling in all the holes in the firewall that I will no longer use. My next move is to paint the belly pan black.
My last picture is of my 81 when I brought it home. It came with the Ramsey winch. Does anyone know if this was a factory option or a later add on?

I fabricated a new transmission cross member today which I like much better than the belly pan I was using. I also like the new front tow shackles I installed today.

Just seeing this thread. The engine Fire sucks. I looked at it when he first put it on craigslist and it definitely not have the engine fire yet. It was right up the street from my house. I'll have to come check it out sometime

Do that. I would enjoy your company. I also think you would like what you see. The rolling chassis is ready for a body but I'm doing body work to it now. It's starting to come together nicely. I only live one mile from Cabela's.

I finally got my cross member finished and the drive shaft install. It's been a lot of work and trial and error but I seemed to have solved my front drive shaft clearance problems.0031910.jpg0041910.jpg0021910.jpg0011910.jpg0051910.jpg

You're not concerned about chassis vibration using those poly bushings?

I wasn't until now. LOL
It's not like I dreamed this up by myself.

Don't make me choose.

I'd be concerned about frame flex with that much leverage on the mounting foot. I've seen mounts and adapters break from the motor or frame flexing and the cross member not having a center mount that can give. Might be ok on a street rig, but I be concerned. I took the 2" in lost clearance and put in a regular transmission mount.

I really appreciate the input on the cross member. Actually I'm happy with any input, it means someone is paying attention. I may need to include the original center trans-mount yet. I didn't say this before but I did check with two different installers of this type conversion who have used this set up. I'll be the first to admit that it may or may not work. There are a lot of parts on this conversion that are not stock to a jeep and I can only imagine that not all are going to work the first time. It's all part of the challenge and fun.

It will be fine. You will break other drive train parts long before that cross member.

edit: sorry Im late to the game, but if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out.

Thanks you, I needed some positive reinforcement about now.
