The Scrambler Owners Association is pleased to announce that the 8th Annual National Scramble will be held July 25-27, 2011 in beautiful Ouray, Colorado. Check in and registration will occur on the evening of the 24th.

A few things we should mention at this time:
There is a great deal of planning to be done before the event. As the person to nominate Ouray for consideration by the board, Ken Adams has once again volunteered to take the lead as Event Committee Chairman and he needs the help of a dedicated group of volunteers to make this the best National ever.

You do not have to be attending to be able to help plan, we've had generous individuals volunteer for the committee without attending in the past. Anyone interested in contributing their help, please respond in this thread.

Returning to a great tradition, the SOA will hold a raffle at the event (for attendees only) but with a little twist. All proceeds from this raffle will go to two charities. The SOA board wants to get our members' input on where to donate the money. Nominations for charities to be considered can be contributed in this thread with final selection to be the board's decision based on nominations posted.

So mark you calendars, put in for that vacation time at work, start tuning the old carb for some high altitude Scramblin' fun, and we'll see y'all in Ouray!

It may have, Scott.
We have a master list of paid members on our Google Docs site and work graciously blocks me from seeing it for some reason. Otherwise, I'd go check for you. Maybe Eric, Jason, or George can go look today. I'll look this evening when I get home if they haven't beaten me to it.

You think you can make it to Colorado next summer?
We'd all love to see you at a National! You can hop in our convoy as we head West on I-40.

I really doubt i can make it...busy time of year for me..I do not remember ever getting anything regarding my membership..thought it was good till the first of the year.

Well dang Scott, I was thinking of you when the date got changed from the "standard" date of the National because I know you'd always asked for it to be some other week. I know it's a hike though.

BTW, for everyone who might ask, it was moved later because of the potential of passes still closed due to snow in June

Scott, I'll look at your membership status and hit you offline for that. We'll get it worked out.

The time is actually perfect for me...Colorado is just a little out of my travel radius..I am not ruling it out, but i would have to borrow a tow rig and a trailor. I will just have to see how it goes when the time gets nearer. My neighbor has a truck and trailer but july is peak time for his business and it would probably not be available.

Colorado Scramble the week before, maybe Moab on the weekend, then Ouray for the National. Searching the couch cushions for gas money now.... Spent the day looking at Google Earth.:D

Soa?

Ok i never knew of the soa. How do i become a member how much is it.

Now i have a hard date to get the scrambler done. It's only 977 miles from home. I don't have a tow rig so i'll have to drive the 8.

Sweeeeet. Only 45 minutes from home. We will definitely have to wheel in Montrose one of the days. I will be glad to lead some trails.

Chris,
We'd love to have you both as a member and at the event.
I've been to the last 4 Nationals and they've all been great fun. Super people to be around and associate with.

ought to answer most all of your questions about the SOA. If you have more, let us know!

Shoot, yall are already half way there!

Monday - Wednesday???
The powers to be can correct me, but I hope this is right after the Colorado Scramble which is usually held Wed thru Friday. So for the ones like me that have to travel so far, I can attend both with two days to fix my rig in between.

Least ways, that's what I'm thinking and hoping.

The event dates were chosen to be Mon-Wed based on discussions with people that know this area better than anyone. The SOA was grateful for the local knowledge and placed a HUGE value in the opinions we received and the single biggest recommendation was to NOT try to do it on a weekend because there's simply too much traffic on the trails to hold a large event with the types of numbers we get to the National. We'd end up sitting still in traffic, not getting through everything or getting stuck on the trails way late and overall screw up the event.

M-W was chosen because it lets people travel to the event on the weekend and we can hold registration on Sunday night so that there's mimimal "stuff" needed to happen on Monday. Unlike most of the past events at an offroad park/OHV area with trails that spiderweb out and give you lots of options, the trails around Ouray are long roads/loops that don't have any real options to shorten and it takes what it takes to get around them. Because of that, we need to maximize the amount of time we have on the first full day, it's traditionally been a pretty slow start with so many people showing up to register that morning.

We know the timing makes it more time people need to take, but we value the quality of the event and that's what drove the decision.

On the Colorado Scramble, watch for a post from Dan Cole (the CO Scramble organizer/host). The Scrambler Owners Association has nothing to do with the Colorado Scramble and you will have to get that info from him.

Will the scramble start on a Monday? Sorry, I should have read further asking.
