I was just showing where to look !

And Jim was right, you have to clean it off but it is right where he said it would be. But for the records, we now have an 81 forest service jeep that came with a 4cyl and 3.73 gearing

If I put wide track axels that were geared at 4.10, how much would that change the gearing, i.e. would I notice it immediately would it feel like a big change or just a slight difference? I only ask because I l would consider WT's but like how it is geared now but would consider a slightly shorter gear.

Hmm wonder where I can get those 7.17 gears from that the chart has..

O, what's the benefit of the wide tracks? Other than my tires would probably not rub! stablity?

If you go to this link you can input your current setup and the new gearing to compare several different scenarios. You can also look at going with slightly taller tires to help make up the difference in the new ratio.

You could also consider buying factory 15X 8 wheels that would have the correct backspacing to eliminate the rub and also give you an extra inch of width on each side. Two birds one stone, 5 lug nuts.

I like what I'm hearing!

Have you tried this before? I have an '81 with narrow axles and have considered wheel spacers but then it would offset the open ended center caps on the front wheels. Switching axels for wide trac is an option too but if the 15x8 definitely works then I'll wait patiently until I come across a nice set.

No, I have wide track axles with 15X7. But if you look at a 15X8 the depth or dish is noticeably deeper. I would conclude that this gives a wider stance. Several folks are running these rims maybe someone can chime in with additional details.

Cool. If anyone else has tried this I'm curious to know if it will prevent the wheel rub and how much wider if any it will make the stance. If anyone has tried this and it works, please also mention your tire size you have mounted.

One more thing. I think the OP is running steelies that appear to have no dish. Maybe different from what you running.

I'm currently running 15x7 OEM Chrome Rims with 32x11.5 BF Goodrich AT's and my tires rub. Considering running 10.5 to see if that helps at all but I'd also like a little wider stance.

Swap in a set of Unimog axles... They are 6. or 7. Something...

Turning radius is smaller with the wide track axles. That can be a benefit when turning around in tight spaces.
