82 4bt build

Also, What intercooler and radiator did you use? I made room for an intercooler now and I plan on keeping my radiator and having a buddy resize the ports so I can just buy 1 flex hose instead of the frankenstein set up I have now. Also did you keep the stock engine setup with injectors and turbo or did you upgrade? I only upgraded my governor spring.

Mine is not quiet as high as yours, the shifter box sticks up out of the trans tunnel hole about 2 inches and I cut a hole to access the big bolt that goes through the twin stick set up in the tcase, So now if I have to remove the sticks I take a cover off and push the bolt out into the floor board. I meant your is now located front to back where mine is.

I did clock the dana 300 prob the same amount as yours but I just pushed it up as high as I could because I iddnt want to cut up the tunnel area.

I went on a road trip last night and picked up one tons so that's next on my list.

I used a 65 mustang aluminum rad and because its narrow I could use the biggest intercooler I could squeeze in between the blinkers. I put the outlets down so the come out at the bottom of the grill and I didn't have to ccut up the grill to bad. I was also able to weld the rad to the intercooler and I mounted the intercooler with it sitting down in the bottom of the grill.

Another great weekend of getting things done. Before I could move the jeep out of the garage I needed to build a transmission mount/skid plate. I wanted to keep the belly as high as possible so I didn't want to use the stock NV4500 transmission isolator. I also didn't feel like buying anything else since I have a bunch of stuff lying around. I have extra body mounts so I decided to use two of them and hope it works wells. No idea how well it will work, but I'll fix it later if it has any issues.

For a self taught welder I think I am doing pretty well. A lot better than when I first started of course and I am still not super consistent, but I was happy with this session of welding.

After installing the skid plate I realized and actually figured that I would have to trim the front for the front driveshaft, but I'll worry about that later on. With moving the engine the front driveshaft won't fit anymore.

So now the jeep is outside on go topless day and I spent about 5 hours cleaning the garage. It felt nice to find all my sockets and tools. I finally went through all my tools and put aside all the tools I don't need. I had about 4 of each size wrench so I tossed all but two. Yard sale soon!

Anybody think I am going to have a problem with mounting my drag link for my steering on top of the tie rod?

Tested articulation and clearance.

My upper inner link was tacked in pretty good, but it bent while doing this. Whoops! Good news is everything cleared and I'll be making everything permanent this weekend. I finished painting my wheels so they will be going on this weekend.

So after more deliberation and figuring I had to cut and adjust the 4 link suspension again. Third times a charm hopefully! I tried to cheat and move my axle as far forward as possible and it made my steering bind up and I'm not going to run a full hydro bc i want to take it down the road. Tuning a mechanical seems a lot easier. So I cut the links and moved them back and lined them up so the steering is lined up properly or as close to properly as possible. Also I'm going to just pay for a flat top Dana 44 knuckle and run high steer instead of trying to make my own setup with my current configuration. So here is how it sits now.

I need to move the shock hoops lower because I'm an inch lower in the front than I am the rear. Not a huge deal, but it bothers me.

I also did the rear disc brake conversion. This is what I had to pull apart.

And here is the new clean setup.

Today I got home early from work and cut some gussets for the upper links and welded them in.

Don't mind those horrible welds. It was a pain to get in there and try to be consistent. I still have to weld the lower gusset upper inside/frameside, but I'll have to pull the skid plate for that.

My wife bought me a roll around tool box so I cleaned up the garage and consolidated all my tools to it and put her new car in the garage. 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek. This is a sweet little car! We've been searching for a good gas mileage car that is rugged for the dogs, has room, and is reliable and this is the best I think out of all the choices. 2013 with 26k miles on it and warranty to 100k miles.

Headed to Arkansas this weekend to pick up a hard top that was for sale on this forum and to visit some buddies. Can't wait to get the hardtop on and see how it looks!

Pulled the front engine cover off and did the dowel pin fix. Easy enough to do. Cut a small piece, drill a hole, bolt in and hammer to fit with a punch.

I had a rusted nut plate on my grill mount so I cut out the welds on the mount and welded in a lock nut for the new bigger bolt.

Since I took the engine plate off I decided to clean the parts and paint them again with that hardened spray paint. Looks really good. I love this paint!

Also picked up the new hard top and I am more than happy with it. Thanks dw26!

Today I didn't do as much as I wanted because I was looking at a place to rent. We were planning on downsizing to a 1 bedroom apartment while I am in training, but I found a 2 car garage 2 bedroom owned by a gear head. We have mutual friends and they told me about the place. Now I'll have a place for all my stuff! The owner lives next door and has a 1100 horsepower mitsubishi lancer EVO! That thing is a monster. He is very excited about my jeep being next door.

I did get my fuel line routed and I shortened it too. It normally runs down the passenger side, but since my lift pump is on the driver side I ran the line down that side. Going to run wiring tomorrow and try to start the engine. It's been too long. :)

Have you driven it to see if the sterring geometry is gona work? Got a close up of it? cause thats how I am gona have to do mine. Were you stationed in Ky a while back?

I drove it to work yesterday and it drove great down the highway. My steering box needs to be replaced and I'd like to upgrade my steering shaft too, but the geometry works because I changed it now. I swapped the knuckle so I could run a high steer setup. I have a lot of updating to do, but I just got internet so I'll try to take pics and update later tonight on all I have done.

Alright so I've been behind on posting because we moved and I had to get the jeep ready. So here is the update.

Installed the rear shock hoops and shocks. I know they are upside down and I did it for clearance. They also work as advertised so no issues at all. It took me nearly half a day to line up the rear axle to weld in the perches.

Then I bought another front axle so I could steal the high steer kit and a front locker. Plus the axle came with coils, shocks, and a 3 link kit with beefy heim joints that I will be installing in the rear in the future. Swapped out the knuckle and built new drag link and tie rod.

There is 400 psi in those shocks and they still are a little bit shy of the ride height I want, but maybe my front is just too heavy. Going to email sway away later on and see what they suggest.

I also bent new front shock hoops plus a support bar. Sorry to the guys that wanted my fenders. I just really liked the stock fender look and unfortunately I hacked them up. I'll be cutting the support bar out and adding flanges so I can remove the bar if the engine ever needs pulled. Then I'll finish up my welds as well.

I did drive it to the new place and I drove it on the highway 17 miles to work. It road great at 60-65 mph and the engine felt like it was barely trying in overdrive. It did however have zero passing power in OD, but downshifting to fourth was no big deal. I have a lot of little things to tend to, but it's road worthy now and the handling is pretty good. I will be installing a limiting strap up front because from stop the front likes to jump up a good bit. Also looking to buy bump stops as well. I'd hate to bottom out my shocks. Tomorrow being the 4th I'll be breaking out my American flag I flew in Afghanistan with and hanging it from the jeep while driving around. 3 weeks til I leave for special tactics selection course!

GADUCKER- never stationed in KY, only FL, The UK, and now OKC.

Flex test went well and nothing hung up besides the tire on the fender.

Did a photo shoot with my wife. She is way better looking than me. Idk how I got so lucky.

Taking the jeep out wheeling labor day weekend to see how it goes.

Now that I am daily driving my jeep and all seems to be going well I decided I can start looking in to my WANT list and see what to do. Since I have no stereo system I'm looking to get that handled. Thinking 4 speakers (2 front, 2 Rear) to start and looking at Marine stereo head units. I found this setup, but not sure if it's the route I am going to take. I want it to be simple and get rid of clutter.

What do you guys think of this?

If the link doesn't work google FUSION-Link Enabled RA205KTS Marine Stereo Receiver Package with iPod Dock. Not a bad price and my buddy is a wiz at stereos so I'll just leave it up to him to do it all.

Stereo looks good. I just installed a Pioneer Media Receiver in my wife's Silverado- she loves it. No CD but full control of her IPhone from the stereo- even Siri and calls!

Great Photos! You and your wife make a cute couple, but you're right- your wife wins the beauty contest hands down!

Upgraded the steering box to the 1996 H1. Pretty straightforward removal and installation. Pulled the old one, painted the brackets, and installed it. Nice upgrade and I like that it's less turns lock to lock.
Here is the H1 and CJ side by side.

Been driving it for a few days and it's been great.

So all of my body mounts are rusted out at the bolt and nut plate so I decided to start the fix for them. Used some really stout mounts that I had lying around.
Cut off the old which was a bit of a pain because I didn't lift the body off the frame. I just lifted the body up so the mount will actually hold some weight.

2 down and now the rest to go!

Taking the jeep wheelin this weekend to test it out. I'll be going to Big Red off road park.

This is next for me, everything worked out? Can you turn sharp both ways?

I mean dose it have enough throw to put the knuckles on there stops on both sides?

I'm pretty sure I'm turning full turn left and right. I'll have to make sure. I think the throw is the same, but the ratio is all that changed with the new box.

I'm pretty sure I used a wagoneer pitman arm because it fits the gearbox and the hole is sized for the 3/4 ton steering draglink upgrade.

what pitman arm?
