 Hi all. New to the site, but as the title says. I have a 83 Scrambler that has been passed down. My grandfather bought it right off the show room floor. Then went to my father, and finally to me. Have had the jeep for the last six years, and have made up my mind to do a complete overhaul. Even though I have been hard on it, still in good shape.

Problems I am having is finding stuff to go back original. Such as body pin stripping. Top of the hard doors just under the window. Looks like some kind of textured sticker.

Realy want to find these before i start tearing it down to the frame, and sand blasting. Any help is greatfull.

the black textured stuff Ive seen at collins bros or austin jeeps cant remember witch one but try them.

Thanks, very helpful. Went and started taking it to the frame this weekend. Wow it is Hot here in South East Texas. Got the front clip off though, before i finaly had enough.

Well tore off some more of the body. Next weekend should have the complete body off the frame. When we took the roll bar out of the bed. Complete rust out, frame the roll bar was bolted to is still good. But the body panel for the bed is all rusted out.

Since the bed looks like it was designed so these panels can be replaced. Which is where the roll bar is bolted down at. Where can i find just the pieces, and not have to get a whole new bed?

Well after "hydro blasting" the frame, leaf springs, front and rear axle. Wow a pressure washer and a sand blaster in one takes alot off. Painted every thing with Por 15 Some more great stuff. An am starting to put it all back toghether.

When i was taking apart the Leaf springs there are these lil plastic pieces between each leaf. Most are completely worn away, some of the leafs have rubbed into the other leafs. Where would be a good place to look for these, i guess spacers?

Would love to see some pics and some progress. The photobucket link did not work for me . . anyone else?

Didn't work for me either; didn't want to register. Post pics here. We neeeeeed to see it.

I tried to find these anti-friction pads and finally found them at AlCan Spring. People suggested local spring shops, but I couldn't find any here. They were cool about it and sent them to me for free, I just paid shipping. Only issue was that the "peg" on them was bigger than my holes. Drilling spring steel wasn't happening, so I cut off a section of the peg enough for them to fit. Seem to be staying in so far.

There are also anti-friction paints that are available; maybe they are siliconized or something similar. I've heard that these paints have been used on Jeep leaf springs.

Some of the woodworking supply places sell Teflon strips with self adhesive backing on it.

They are intended as fence guide material to cut down on friction, but should work in this application too.

Here are some pics of when Tearing down. Left the camera last weekend with recent painting pics. Really appreciate the help guys.

Thanks, since it has been passed down in the family. I have tried to take the best care of it as possible. Just lately as soon as i fix something, another breaks. So i made up my mind to rebuild it.

I found a fix for anti friction pads on the leaf spring. A non breakable blank plate cover for electrical outlets. It is 3 inch wide by 5, once cut should get two per. At 79 cents each can't beat it. They are made out of Nylon, and can be found anywhere with electrical supplies.

Welcome to forum ssgnort. Glad you joined us in one of our passions. :D
I love the original color and the condition is good for its age. We all look forward to your project. Thanks for sharing it with us :-))

regards,

Cool, how are you attaching them to the leaves?
