Constant searching of the local Craigslist has yielded another Warn 8274. I barely missed the Jeep SE one, but this one is all mine, at about 1/3 the price! Looks to be in pretty good shape, too! Now I have 3 of these, time to start restoring and selling a couple!

Sweet!!

SWEET!!

Did you say 1/3 the price....so jealous. So are these pretty simple machines?

It doesn't look simple from this pic, but it really is...

Yep...I paid $100 for this one. Going to them looking like this one below and see how much I can sell 2 of them for. Hoping at least $600 looking like this. Gotta get $$$ for a paint job.

The third one I'll probably put on my Scrambler, and then sell the 9000xi too.

Super simple to take apart and put back together again. The only weird tool you could need is a gear puller to get the brake parts off.

Does that winch have my Jeep Special Equipment Warn decal on it? :D

It sure looks beautiful!

You make one look like that and let me know when to send you the 600 bucks!

That looks great Randy! Nice find. I love the 8274.
I built this one and just haven't had time to do a good writeup on how I did it but have tons of pictures and documentation from Warn.

Here's mine before:

...and after:

...and a very dark shot of the mount I built for it:

and Joe, mine has one of your stickers on it and I love it! Get lots of interest from folks about that.

I will take one at 600 also......... see if you can stick your hard top in the box with it and i will take both!!!!!!!!!!!

What exactly did you do to that 8274? I'm guessing you beadblasted/ mediablasted it, painted the bottom part and polished the top housing? Obviously a new solenoid cover.

Shore is purty!!!

I have an aluminum solenoid cover a guy over on IH8MUD.com made me. Looks close to the factory plastic but it's metal. Wasn't much different price-wise than the factory plastic replacements either.

Clearly, you have a WAY different Craigslist clientele than what I have experienced down here.....

Well done sir!

Randy, walker hound,

I commission you to scour and refurbish, but under no circumstance are you allowed to sell them out of "the family"

Joe- I have your decals- (Thank You!) One is going on my keeper for sure.

That 8274 I pictured isn't mine, it's a picture I have been saving for reference. However, that's what I expect my finished result to look like. Polished top, painted bottom, etc. I ordered some new solenoid covers and rebuild kits today, hopefully Warn doesn't zero me on the covers.

Jeepdreamer, Gaducker- I will get them torn down and ready to rebuild and if you're still interested, I'll PM you with options, such as full polish, powder coat instead of paint, Joe's SE decals, ect. Obviously, shipping will be on your dime.

I also have a pretty good source for synthetic rope in olive drab or orange, 3/8" x 125'. If you prefer wire cable it would probably be better if you source that yourself due to extra weight shipping. However, I will get cable too if you want. I also have a couple of the original Hawse style fairleads...

I expect it to take me about 4 weeks to complete unless powdercoating is involved. I'm making some big career change moves in the next several weeks-

Tower- I prefer to keep it "In the family". I'll make sure to take care of you guys first.

Tower,
I'll keep my eyes open. Let me know if you find one and what your top dollar is. Consider it would be somewhere in the $100 range to ship. Clutch/no clutch?

Now that you mention it, that picture looks like the one that one of the members on virtualjeepclub.com rebuilt. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Clutch?

Did some of them come with and without clutches?

My SE is without a clutch, though I've seen them with clutches as well. There's a print for it on the upper housing, but nada.

I picked up a 8274 last month pretty cheap. Guy saw it was leaking(barely) and bought a new one from warns, closeout site. Gave me a mounting channel that just needs to be cut down and should bolt right to the mounting brackets from my Warn foot down mounting kit. I haven't personally seen one cheaper than the one I got (sweet!). Now I gotta figure out how to replace the seal.
