Jeep was owned by a friend of mines brother. He bought in 2004 with intentions of fixing it up. Those plans went nowhere and it's been sitting in a pole building since. He actually never drove the jeep.

My friend owns a '81 he's had since 1985 and it's a very nice 8 also. He has not done much with his for almost 8 years till the other day.

New fuel pump installed in the black CJ with some fresh gas and it fired right up. Time for a photo op. You can see in all these first pics the coating of dust on the jeep.

BARN FIND :smokin:

Home.

No real set in stone plans for this yet. No I will not cut it to wheel it. That's what $1000 XJs are for!:rotfl:

Right off the top of list it needs:
Windshield
Tires
Steering TRE
Shocks
Wiring harness

The wiring is scary in this thing. Stuff all over the place but I suppose typical for a 30 year old Jeep.

I'm not 'new' to the jeep world but I've never had many jeeps with frames. I've had 31 XJs and 9 MJs over the years. Still have one MJ that's so close to being done, I'm not touching the scrambler till it's finished. I also own a '14 JKU I just bought this spring. I'm also a member of the Northern MN Jeepers, the only club in the state of MN that has a Grant in Aid ORV trail!

Thanks for reading and look forward to the future in the world of Scramblers!

Also would like a CJ8 top, instead of a modded CJ5 or 7 top someone put together with screws and silicone.

Wow , good try though !

NICE!!! Welcome!

I was trying to figure out what was going on with that top... interesting effort!

Looks like you can just clean up what's there and run it as is (with a new top) and you'd have a great patina rig!

No kidding. One if the better attempts.

Tops are around. Good luck with this one.

Little fiberglass work and it acually would come out great..

Couple pics. I did finally get it washed up about a month ago. New tires too off a parts XJ I bought last winter. Firestone AT 31/10.50.

Wifey approved!

Washed up

Yesterday was a good day.

Getting ready to roll out!

Made to the gas station! 70 mph on the highway all the way there. Zero issues.

Ahhh that feeling....

So the only things that I've done to this Jeep is drag it out of the barn where it had been sitting for at least 10 years, new fuel pump, fresh engine oil, and tires!

No speedo, fuel gauge, temp gauge, turn signals.... I have headlights and brake lights. That's it. Needs brakes, shocks and a new steering shaft pretty bad too. There will not be many hwy cruises till the above is addressed for safety concerns. I'm not so much worried about me, just the jeep!

Cool! Congrats!

Did you do transmission and transfer case fluids? I'd want those swapped to before any more driving too. Good call to go through the brakes too.

On the steering shaft, are you positive that's the issue? There's a host of things that could make it feel like that and the steering shaft is possible but actually one of the least likely. There's some good threads on here that can help you go through the steering smartly to look for the cause/causes of loose steering (and many times it's multiple smaller things on jeeps this age that add up). Going through it the right way will keep you from possibly spending more than you need and will ensure things are as safe as they can be.

Congrats again! What a great find!
