I assume any Jeep newer than 2020 has this abomination. Can it be bypassed? I know on a rental car I had several years ago it could be done. Wondering about current Fiat products…

FIAT= Fix It Again Tony. You got to love 10 times the amount of electronics you really need or want.

Two options I know of, maybe others… 1. Button on dash each time you start jeep. 2. Bypass wit programmer like Tazer, which turns it off all the time.

Here are some plug-in solutions

I know all the Jeeps I've owned have a button on the dash to disable the ESS but it has to be pressed each time after you shut down.

There are many different options for the Gladiator that has a separate battery for the function. I haven't bothered with it since mine is a lease.
I just push the button after I push the "start" button

No ESS on 392 8-)

It has the stupid "deactivate 4 of the 8 cylinders mode" under light throttle/load conditions. It can be deactivated by:

1) put the transmission in manual mode
2) turn on "offroad plus mode" all the time
3) drive harder 😆

It can be deactivated with an aftermarket tune but that could lead to warranty issues. Same with the ESS on the V6 engines. I either hit the button all the time when I had the Gladiators or just learned how much to not push brake pedal in while keeping the Jeep stopped at a light.

I hate the ESS and 4 cylinder mode I currently have, differently and equally.

I have a deal plugged into the OBD plug in our Tahoe to bypass the cylinder shut down BS….

I thought about that with mine but two concerns:

1) Mine is under warranty. I talked with the mechanic at the local dealership and they can tell if the cylinder shutdown has been electronically deactivated.

2) From what I have heard, if you permanently disable the cylinder deactivation electronically then the mechanical parts of the system will not be lubricated and will fail. At least on the Hemi engines. Supposedly you need to swap out internal valve train parts to do it correctly, which will also void the warranty and lead to all kinds of dashboard warnings.

I just live with it. On the ESS Gladiators I always hit the dash button, it became a habit. Push start button, then the ESS button until the ritual became muscle memory. Down here where you and I are from it is HOT most of the year. If you forget to hit the ESS button with the AC on and the engine shuts down it will almost automatically restart due to the outside temperature/interior temperature differential being so great. That was really annoying, hence I always hit the button. No way in hell all that start/stop trauma can be beneficial to an engine, I don't care what the engineers who work for car companies that would love nothing more to sell you another new car say 😉

I have a Superchips programmer for my Gladiator however I have not set it to keep the autostop turned off. To be honest it becomes a habit so quickly that I don't even realize I disable it each time I start up. Same for our Wagoneer.

Well, if you have a manual, like my 23 JL, as long as you don't lift up the clutch in neutral the engine never stops. So while mine has it, it literally never shuts the engine down.

Yet another reason to drive a stick shift.

My wife's 2025 2-Door JL Willy's with the V6 and 6-speed has it. It is a stupid "feature" and I'm glad they will be going away soon on new vehicles.

We put in this in the first week we owned it: https://www.smartstopstart.com/jeep-dodge-chrysler-products.html

I found a discount code on the JL Wrangler forum and got it for either $99 or $109. Installed in 2 minutes and works great. Just retains the last setting of the button. So she enabled the bypass mode and it just stays that way. Never shuts off. This does not bypass the security gateway module like a Taser does.
