Got to work this morning at 6:30 to find out we had a line of duty death. The lieutenant on the off going shift was killed in a structure collapse just a few hours before. Our department had only ever had one other LODD back in 1987. If it had just been a few hours later it would have been me and my crew on that call. He leaves behind a wife and 3 year old daughter. Chilling. Hug your loved ones, you never know what the future holds.

That sucks. Stay safe buddy and thanks for what you and your team does.

Thanks guys. Just makes you reevaluate your priorities in life when it hits that close to home.

In this job there are few second chances. These men choose to walk where the devil dances...

Fireman’s Prayer

When I am called to duty, God
whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age.
Help me to embrace a little child
Before it’s too late,
Or some older person
from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling
and give the best in me,
To guard my neighbor
And protect his property.
And if according to Your will
I have to lose my life,
Please bless with Your protecting hand
My children and my wife

Thoughts and prayers to his family, his team and the firehouse. Thanks for everything you do.

That really sucks, I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and his family.

I am really sorry to hear about the loss to your firehouse and that family. No way to prepare for that. My boss is a Assistant Fire Chief for a local volunteer unit that is very busy. He always has his radio with him while he is at work and I hear it often. So far no emergencies that cause him to run out, but I do always expect something awful to happen that he does.

Prayers as always to all the firemen, policemen, military and public servants. Serving the public is usually dangerous, but it doesn't make it any easier to hear of a loss.

We had a gentleman pass away last week at work from the flu....the flu. He was fifty-three and otherwise appeared to be healthy. It does make you think. I'm sorry for your loss.

Thoughts and prayers for all affected.

I am sorry to hear about your loss, that is a tough one to take.
I can't wait to get home and hug the kids.
