Belizeit's 1984 CJ-7 Engine Swap/Upgrade

Well no Jeep anything on this post, but I did ride in an oldish wrangler for a few minutes. My childhood buddy down in the Caribbean, invited me on a fishing trip, many months ago, but it got postponed 2 times. He called me almost a couple of weeks ago and said that the trip was on. So I scampered to grab a ticket. My only requirement was to fly down and show up. Everything else is taken care of by him. This is the main base. IMG_5343.jpeg

There is fishing near where he lives, but he wanted to bring me to a special area. So a couple days later getting everything ready we left on about a 100 mile trip to get to the area. No fishing that day because even in a great boat, old guys get tired. So after a great night of sleep we felt refreshed. This is a private island resort. Beautiful island. The cabin for the 4 of us. My buddy and I, and a good friend of his as the captain of the boat and another guy who I have known for over 50 years as the tackle guy setting up all the poles. He was busy, because the fish are extremely smart ducking in and around the coral. IMG_5556.jpeg

We forgot to add:

I think it was last year, we pulled the cylinder head off to replace a collapsed lifter/bent pushrod. So, we also changed all the valve stem oil seals, pretty sure this corrected the oil burning Issues.

Installed a new timing chain and gears at the same time, the new set installed when the engine was rebuilt had crazy slack in the little time it was in service.

We also removed all the MSD ignition stuff and installed a D.U.I. HEI distributor/ignition system. Had some issues with MSD components failing.

We also installed new axle bearings and seals on the Moser rear axle shafts.

Still having Sniper issues, now the screen blacks out randomly while driving, also shutting down the engine. Thinking this might be a wiring issue on the Jeep harness side. I originally installed the Holley "Hot on Start/Run" wire to an original wire coming from the Jeep "6 pin" connector. Maybe that wire is randomly dropping out? We are going to hook this Sniper wire up to the same wire powering the HEI (IIRC one of the big original Jeep harness wires that powered the original Ignition Control Module).

I’ve had terrible experiences with MSD stuff and they’re no help when you need it. Repeated failures. Also, replaced with DUI.

I used to run MSD for years, reliably, in the’80’s, when I was racing and never had issues. Now I just won’t waste any more time or money on them.
