Been painting lots of smaller parts. Mostly working on the "Leroy Brown" fenders the last few days. Welding of the cracks, holes and missing pieces done. Hammering done. Body filler done. Working on thin filler and primer now. That ladder works really well for hanging parts.

That air cleaner housing seemed to come out decent.
The rest looks amazing.

Took some sand blasting, a little filler and I'll leave it semi-gloss but it's what I needed. Thanks Craig.
Put a little more filler on the fenders and some primer and they no longer look like a beat up jigsaw puzzle with a couple pieces gone.

First I did the Raptor Liner in tintable with the red I had mixed . . . waste of time and money. Add red to white and you get a pink shade of red. Added more red paint and still not a good match. Painted over the liner with just the red . . . it wasn't a good match. Only one thing left to do, as the song goes . . . paint it black. While it was curing, I painted the fenders I have been working on for the past week. Painted the other side of the cab devider and cowl-to-grill rods while I was at it. While the body was masked off, I raised it up and black Raptor linered the complete underside. I'll be picking Raptor liner off of my arms for the next couple of days. I probably spent too much time making the floor look presentable, but what else was I going to do.

Installed the inside-of-firewall stuff today. After doing that I ran a tap through all the nuts on the body and a die over the studs. Then I noticed there were no nuts for some of the battery tray mounting positions. Two right behind the heater box. So I pulled the heater box, mounted the battery tray with nuts, and put the heater box back. I would imagine the lack of weld on nuts on replacement bodies is rather common. I was going to install the dash but I noticed there were no nuts for the big wing bolts that hold the windshield up. I'll have to make up some nut plates I can rivet in place for those. Installed the vent cover and squirter on top of the cowl, and the left over drain hose I got from Tim recently. Thanks Tim.

Installed the cab divider with tonneau rail. I upgraded my wife's Scrambler with the later roll bar a few years ago. This is the left over roll bar from her '81. I painted it a few days ago and installed it yesterday. A few more small steps to getting this done. Ordered the rebuild kit for the 304. My mechanic friend may have time to do it when he returns from his Alaskan fishing trip.

Installed the tail gate. Other than prepping small parts, not much going on. Mechanic/friend made it back from Alaska but caught something (not fish) on the way there (airplane circulating air) and has been sick ever since. Can't make much progress without the engine.

I have heard that airplanes replace the vabin air ever 2 minutes with filtered air.

@Interceptor With packs on high, it replaces the air about every 90 seconds. With packs on medium about every 3 minutes. With packs on low about every 5 minutes.

Most carriers run packs medium for fuel savings unless the cabin is full or we are in high heat and humidity, then packs high.

On APU power (at the gate or standing waiting for a gate or for a release time to depart) and when taxiing single engine, the A320 will automatically go packs high.

I don't know enough about the 737 to say, but my guess would be it is similar.

You breathe fresher air in an airplane than you do in any office building, shop or most homes in winter.

Installed those nice little ss protector plates with some new ss footman loops. The plates came with this tub so I'll keep them with it. Made the cross tubes for the tonneau cover from old left over copper tubing from upgrading my house plumbing. I have an original NOS cross tube to copy so that made it easy. A little at a time.

Today I installed the snaps on the tonneau cover and the fasteners on the body and tail gate and now the cover is on. It had been folded up for years and needed to get a chance to flatten out and get the kinks out.

I think the dies wore out and were replaced many multiple times over the course of production, hence the scatter shot incidence of "Joop"/crisp "Jeep" over the years. My late '86 model is definitely "Joop".
I don't know why but I love this trivia about CJ's. Mine was a Joop but now it's a Jeep. Rhino lining is hard to get off those letters plus the tailgate ones. I'm thinking a heat gun maybe. But it's a detail I'll get to. Priority now is to get steps on it.

Got the made up nut plates for the big wing nuts that hold the windshield from folding riveted to the body so I could get the dash installed. Cleaned up the under-dash wiring, picked out some nice gauges and switches, and hung the wiring on the dash and installed it. Years ago I sent a box of Jeep nuts, bolts and screws to be zinc plated. That makes it nice to be able to pick out the right fasteners, like dash screws, when needed. Just keeping things moving along while I wait for the engine to get rebuilt.

My mechanic friend's new driving job takes up most of his time now, so I got the engine back, took it all apart, been cleaning and painting, and getting it ready to go back together. Put the rings on the pistons today. Valve covers needed a little repair and paint. Hopefully my friend will find a little time soon and i'll take the engine block to him and he'll use his cam bearing tool to put the new cam bearing in for me. Once that is done, I should be able to take care of the rest of the assembly. It's been about 55 years since I've rebuilt an engine. It's a nice change of pace.

My friend put the cam bearings in for me today. I wanted to put the crankshaft in but found that any tension on the main bearing caps and the crank wouldn't turn. These 020 bearings are 020 bigger than my original 020 bearings that came out of the engine. Rod bearings are the same 020 bigger than the 020 that came out of it. Thickness of each half of the bearing is 10 thousands bigger that what came out. Anybody have that problem?

I recently saw someone on a FB Jeep group that had that same problem and seemed to be getting supporting comments from others. Lots of recommendations to put a micrometer on everything you get because of it.

Bought this upholstery kit for some YJ seats I picked up at a swap meet years ago. A place in CT made these. The bottom of the back rests needed a little more vinyl to cover the foam, but overall a nice kit. I've got the carpet and the seats now. Need to get that 304 put together.
