Checking out another Scrambler this week. Value question

I found a Scrambler near me for sale and he is asking about $3600. He is calling it a CJ Wrangler so I am pretty sure he doesn't really know what it is. I think I can get the price down a decent amount but in all honesty I just want to tune it up, make a few repairs and resell it. On a good note the Jeep has original wood side rails, a rear bed cover and a half soft top to go with it. The body is not that great and the frame seems decent. So do you guys think it is worth the price?

Hard to tell from the four pictures provided, but I have definitely seen worse for a higher asking. Its a NE Jeep I assume? IMO Based on today's market, complete rot boxes seem to be at an asking of $3600. Projects are asking $5k to 8k, drivers that need work ask for $9-$15k, and good ones are asking $15K-20K + all day. Again, this is my opinions as a Scrambler junkie that spends too much time looking at for sale listings. Maybe this will give you some frame a reference when you go look at it. If the frame or tub is non-reparable, then I would classify as a rot box and probably only worth parts value.

If rear bed cover is either a factory bed mat or factory tonneau cover and the half soft top is factory, you are getting a couple valuable pieces that you could sell to defray your total cost. Post pictures and we can let you know. I would be interested in the bed mat.

I plan to go look at it at some point this week. My biggest reserve will be frame condition since this is what hurt me the most when I bought my Jeep. I wish I had more pics but this is all he sent me. The body has patchwork so I am not sure if it is restore-able versus just usable. If it is a good driver then it might be worth picking it up for a clean up and resell. I agree with you assessment AJ2393 especially in our neck of the woods.

Always worth a look. I see a bunch of good parts on it from the pictures.

I have never run across a NE origin Jeep of this vintage/age that hasn't had major rust issues. I have driven hours to see many of them which are advertised as minimal or rust free only to find tons of cancerous rust, or put my hand through the frame, or foot through the floor. @certifiablejeep may be able to chime in on this topic as well. My opinion is looking it over in person is the only way to know with a NE Jeep. Kane, I hope this one is the rare one that doesn't need a whole lot and you can strike a deal. If you look at it and are unsure about the repairability of the rust I would walk away and save your money and time, unless you want to part it out. Again, my opinion.

It is hard to tell but it looks like the frame has been repaired in picture #4.

Does not look like it had a tonneau cover installed. (NOS in a box:shrug:) I wonder with the beacon light if it was plowed with.

My $.02 is that I only buy "parts Jeeps" including Scramblers for $1500... can creep up to $2000 or slightly more if there is a lot of extra parts/pieces that come with it.

As for this one... that body is probably toast as is the frame... plowing I agree with, the diamond plate hides a lot of stuff and the frame does look to be repaired.

I would toss $2500 out there and see if he bites... if the frame is better than expected, fix it and flip it, if not, tear it down, sell the parts, etc. and make a few bucks.

All depends on what you want to do.

I struck a major score on a beautiful CJ7 last month. This is not one of those scores but being an 8 it is worth a look. I told him later this week i can head over to see it. The cover was never installed or the soft top but they are inside the cab. I agree that 1500 is max for a parts vehicle only if the driveline is solid and usable.

If you don’t look at it immediately it will probably be sold. My friend sold a pile of junk with title for 4K

I am going to back out of it. I want to spend the spare cash I have on fixing up the newest CJ7 I picked up. I do not have alot of spare driveway space so I can really only hold one extra Jeep at a time. I refuse to store them on grass because it will destroy them in short order.

Was it on CL, or just in the neighborhood?
I might be down that way possibly in the next week or so, maybe I can check it out.

Yes, thanks for digging this up... was trying to find it and then got side tracked with work.
This Jeep is rough... very rough, the bed you can see through in all areas, the front floor section as well... body is not salvageable.
Frame has been repaired in the back and a new gas tank... starts right up though, running a weber, open exhast as the muffler is in the bed of the truck, rotted out.

All in all, we were right, this was not a $4k scrambler, it was a $2k one.
