Expedition Scrambler..?

JD,

copy all the above.. it you're a dwell timer non-deployable.. become a rear-d superhero.. trust me, as a former BN XO.. having good help to the Rear-D CDR is like Gold.. and nearly as hard to find. That young CPT has the WORST job in the battalion.. wouldn't wish it on anyone.. so having some go-to guys to help him out is essential.

Sweet Jesus! I showed this post to my wife, who's fluent in four languages, and even SHE couldn't figure it out.

I could make it worse.. want a translation ;)

one of my favorite moments from "Good Morning Viet Nam":
Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

the hits and misses...

Sorry...kinda too tied up wrenching for a real progress report. I will have lost of time soon if I get it done enough for shipping.
The quick hits are: all fluids changed with royal purple except engine oil. Rear diff leak fixed with new gasket and one of AlloyUSA's diff covers. Rear shock mounts welded on. Hardtop placed back on with help of friends. Rear inner corner tacked back in place and waiting seam sealer. Rear corners inplace and tail lights reinstalled. Still messing with the rockers, flares, and haven't even started on the winch or spare tire yet...tomorrow is gonna be busy! Oh...and now I gotta add a brake MC...and hope it fixes the new issue.

its gone.....GONE!!!!

After what seems like an eternity my jeep is finally gone..................! No more wrenching or stressing over it for a few months while it is on the boat to..
GERMANY! Yea and Yippieeee!
I will post up more when I'm not using my phone.

enjoy the break ;) It'll be a good time to fan the flames while you're away from it..

Not mine...

Wanted to add this appart from my project. Found it sitting in the Lowes parking lot looking all sad and neglected. Felt obligated to share it as I don't think there are very many 8s in El Paso.

Mine...at the end.

Wanted to add pics of mine the last I saw it when I dropped it off in Dallas at the VPC. So much has been happening and things have been quite chaotic trying to do all the prerequisits in order to leave one Army post and head to a new one. There is much I didn't get done to the Jeep and some of it may be in the future and some not.
The folks at the VPC are not the sharpest tools in the shed and I had some issue/discussion with them over the functionality of my parking brake. It was almost to the point of getting nasty but fortune smiled on me and it all worked out. They just couldn't get it through their heads that the jeep was designed to crawl rocks. And when you put it on a 40% grade and into reverse then of COURSE the parking brake won't hold it...DUH! There is to much mechanical advantage for the tiny P_brake to hold! And no matter how I adjusted it it wouldn't do it. And even worse was too much adjustment and the pedal would "pop" out.
Finally got them to take it though so maybe I should look into a t-case mounted disc P-brake...lol.
Somewhat in line with this little story is the goings on of today. The govt. movers came to pick up my House hold goods for shipping. I tried as hard as I could to be overly nice and offered to help whenever possible. Why? Well, the Army only allows "X" number of lbs of stuff to be shipped. And me being me I am pretty sure I killed that number...ahem. But the movers were pretty cool guys, appreciated the water and snacks I offered and the effort I went to to stage stuff and help them carry stuff. Needless to say they didn't weigh anything and didn't give me any grief over the 350lb crate I had with the NV4500 and the York compressors in it...That was a bear to load but we managed. It should give me something to upgrade to down the road as I don't feel like the AX5 is stout enough for the drivetrain I have.Plus its getting a little tired. The funny thing is how much of my stuff was Jeep related. And if it wasn't a jeep part it was likely to be a tool. Very little in the way of clothes or normal household type stuff in my stuff. Haha.
But I did have to make some concessions knowing how heavy my stuff was going to be. Some of the hard won stuff I had planned had to be left and will go into storage for future projects or whatever. The biggest of these was the Fuel tank. Despite the herculean effort of having it cleaned it was just to big and bulky to ship. After today I can easily say it would NOT have fit! So maybe down the road I will just order a new Aero tank and call it good. We shall see. I also left the "used" Howell F/I kit behind. I will try the Eddy intake and carb first and then eventually just go with a new F/I setup down the road.
The roof rack never had a chance to materialize either due to both time and cost constrictions but in a way that is ok. I don't know if it would have made it through the inspection with one on it. They measure the vehicle (HxWxL) and you are only allowed Xnumber of metric cubic tons or something...*shrugs* I will look very close to this and find some way in the future to make it work out. I kind of have to since I did manage to get the RTT put into my shipment of household stuff.
I do still suffer a little from that uncertianty that comes from major surgery on a vehicle. I know there will be bugs to work out as always but I have really had zero time to test it all out. One short trip to Chickfilet (about a mile round trip) is hardly enough to tell much. And I know I will need to do some intense shake down before I would dare to take it out on the German highway. I can only imagine how fast my jeep would disappear if it broke down on the side of the road and I had to hoof it for a wrecker...!
There will be some obvious need stuff before any real play begins too. I need to think about driveshafts. The rear reaches but just barely. The front was too short and I kinda forgot to pack it...oops. So a custom one will be needed I guess. Not sure but that may mean the timeline of stuff will be extended. Not much sense in ordering a custome set of shafts if I plan on swapping in the NV4500 and the Blackbox! That would be a wast of money and time so who knows.?.
Ok...gonna try and load the pics then go look for some sack time. I'm beat.

Whew! I didn't think you were going to make it! I'm glad it all worked out. Looks good! Have a safe trip, and enjoy Germany. I'm half German, some day I'll make it over there...Oktoberfest beckons...

yeah...PHEW!

Thanks Randy...yeah that was an epic example of biting off more than one could chew. And even though it is far from done...FAR from...At least the lion's share of the bigger stuff is finished. It has been a battle most of the way and certianly an emotional roller coaster. Only a few other hurdles left to make it legit in Germany (inspection on that side of the pond) and then I will just tinker and enjoy it while waiting on parts for the next stages of the build.

Oktoberfest... yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Still alive...!

Just wanted to touch base and let everyone now I am still alive and kicking. Still in the transition stage of arriving but Germany has been fun so far! And I have been enjoying the time away from wrenching on the Jeep. Please don't tell it I said that!!! Lol! But yes, the beer is tasty and the ladies.... Uh, well them too! Haha! I suppose I should be grateful the Army didn't send me here when I was younger as I can see how easy it would be to get in trouble! Plus I get to see and do cool stuff/places I may not have appreciated as a wet behind the ears whelp.?. It will still be a month or two before the jeep arrives and my tools etc as well. So until then I will just take advantage of being single in Europe!

Um...you do have supporting pictures, right?

Evil-fence...

Haha...how'd I know that was coming! Sorry brotha, don't usually go hunting with a camera. I will try to at least try and work the phones camera next time in the box. That's if the dang pilsner doesn't get me first!

Ah, yes, German beer (I much preferred the dark myself). Such fond memories from many years ago when I was wearin the (OD) green! Enjoy your tour there, travel as much of Europe as you can.

Hide the women and kids... The beast kommen!!!

Hi everybody! Greetings from der Faderland. ;)
Things have been pretty busy for me during my transition but I'm happy to say I'm settling in a little. Germany is amazing so far even if my last three weeks were spent I'n the woods for an FTX! So nice to be near trees, grass, and lakes!
I can also say that the Beast has finally arrived. Yippieeeee! I am still waiting on some paperwork from home to arrive I'n the mail so my 8 can get out of car-jail! ;) the weather here is absolutely FANTASTIC! I can't wait to get topless and run around! Settle down Nancy, I'm talking about the jeep! Lol!
And I'n an effort to occupy my time and sate my red blooded Americaness I have been sampling as much of Germany as I can. Wine, women, and song. Well, actually I don't sing, hate wine/love beer, and... Well at least the other is correct! ;)
I will try and update as time permits so all the leeches can live vicariously through me.. Heehee!
Happy Easter everyone!
Ted
