I wasnt sure where ths topic might belong so I'll try here and if need be ask Eric to clean up after me

does anyone have a simple receiver hitch on the front of their Jeep? I'm thinking of going that route and putting a winch in a cradle mount to share with my trailer and my truck. Stupid idea? Id appreciate the thoughts, opinions, experiences and ridicule of the assembled masses (pics too)

Thanks

Back 10 years or so I added one to my 86 CJ7. it's definitely come in handy a few times. it's just the receiver part you can buy online that is just the 2 inch box part and I welded it to the crossmember and added some bracing that goes outward and up to part of the bumper and the frame. This pic doesn't show much and is really dark, pic i had handy on my phone, but here it is. I've also seen a bolt on solution that mounts the receiver on the top but I was looking for something tucked away down low

I have a 2" receiver built into both of my bumpers. I intended to carry a bike rack or cargo basket but so far I've only used the rear.

When I built my bumpers, I welded in receiver tubes for both ends. The front one comes in handy occasionally.

thanks guys, I have been working on a new front bumper for a while now that does have one in it so I could finish it up, or just declare victory paint it and install it but I was thinking of one that didnt cantilever the winch out so far in front...

more thinking I guess, I like how unobtrusive yours is on the CJ7 jersey, I had assumed id have to go on top of the porch but maybe I'll go take another look...

thanks

Here's the one I just put on the cj8. It was built inside the bumper with it being welded on each side. Have never tried so I don't know how solid it is.P1090519.jpgP1090531.jpg

I built one in my front bumper to do the same thing after a while I got tired of moving it around and just mounted the winch on the front and found another winch for the other jeep. Then I found the receiver was in the way of the cable and cut the cable once so cut I the receiver off and welded a plate in the hole to make the bumper smooth again.

yep, lve come to the same conclusion, i may make a removeable mount for the trailer and truck but not for the jeep. i've done a mount for my m8000 but not yet for the 8274 so maybe it ends up on the trailer instead of the jeep

thanks
