Gary's '81 Scrambler

Everything is back from paint! Tub is heading to Line-X in the morning at 7:00. He's going to shoot the tub and I will pick it up tomorrow afternoon. It looks like 3-full days of intense building is ahead!

Pics to follow.....man, I am STOKED! This thing is like a mirror!

Oh, and as has been mentioned before, I was just reminded of what Jeep stands for: Just Empty Every Pocket.

Oh well, this thing is gonna rock......

I'm really interested in seeing how your LIne-X comes out.. will you color match it or are you going with black? I'm thinking of doing a white/matched liner in my bed (and underneath, firewall, and inner fenders).

My painter did a color-matched liner material on the underside of the tub, the firewall, and the fenders. It's a neutral colored liner, then he added in my paint color. Matches perfect!

I just got back from dropping off the tub and tailgate @ Line-X. The inside of the tub will be black. Should be completed in about 4-hours, so I will be posting up some pics later. The tricky part, is that my painter didn't wrap the red exterior paint down into the tub (on the top of the rear bed rails). So the folks @ Line-X are going to have a real tough time making a perfect line at the edge of the top rail, where it goes down into the tub. Kind of hard to explain, but they said it shouldn't be an issue...just more work!

Looing good:cheers:

No holiday weekend for you, time to get to work;):D

All Jeep parts get back from the painter, then my wife comes up with 4,000 things on a honey-do list....arggggghhh.

So far I've managed to get the tub back on, the tail-lights bolted on, and that's about it! But today she is working :woot: so I'm headed back to the shop. I will post photos this evening!

Here you can kind of see the red liner material sprayed on the firewall (and also under the tub and fenders:

Looks great, I have same style wheels on RM #1.

Since U have stainless hinges on outside of tailgate, I would get the Kentrol stainless inner tailgate latches.

They come with the special "wave" washers so turning them won't scratch the paint.

Or did U line-x the inside of tailgate?

Either way, they powdercoating or paint will rub off over time from turning.

Awesome machine.....U are building.

Air cleaner sorta reminds me of a TX Longhorn.

I used a SBC 'shorty' header, from eBay. Working great so far, with regard to fitment, exhaust connection, etc.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone.

tailgate hinges

Looks great......The paint, tinted bed liner and linex look awesome.

BTW the tailgate hinges are upside down

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

And 4-Miles, yes thanks, I caught that little mistake last night while wondering "why would they put that little bend in there, that isn't flush with anything" :)

Last night I didn't make too much progress. I was busy watching both my Texas Rangers AND Dallas Mavericks lose their games.

I did get the grill mounted so that I can start running wires up that direction. It's starting to look like a Jeep.

Wires!

I have started the wiring. I got a new 14-circuit harness from Hot Rod Wires. This harness is awesome! The fuse block snaps onto the old Jeep block, since the OEM Jeep stuff (in many cases) was sourced from GM. It snaps on then has different sections of wiring, all tied together and the direction it should be ran. Such as EXTREME FRONT: Headlights, turn signals.....DASH HARNESS: all dash lighting, turn signals, etc.

It really simplifies things and the cross-wiring at the fuseblock is already done from the folks at Hot Rod Wires. So it's really just a matter of running the wires and terminating them, then providing power to the fuse block. And each wire within each wiring section is color coded, so I know exactly where to terminate each wire in each group. While it may look like a bowl of spaghetti, it's really pretty straight forward. Cool stuff!

And this weekend? The wife and kid are out of town, so it will be Jeep Marathon in the shop! I hope to complete the wiring, get the windshield glass back into my frame, mount it to the Jeep, and try to start on the rebuild of the heater/defrost stuff.

I Just got the my bed/bulkhead done last week and was considering the cockpit floor/bulkhead. I'm convinced! Looks great and it's WAY practical. Floormats will still be nice for bare feet and I won't bother with the vertical surfaces (other than the bulkhead), but Line-x makes a heckuva useable attractive choice.

While it may not appear like a bunch of work has been accomplished, I've been running the new wiring harness. Also media blasted/painted the headlight buckets, and got them installed with the rings. Mounted the rollbar, stereo amp, steering column, and clutch/brake pedal assembly. I only get to work on this in the late afternoon after work, and lately it's been close to 100-degrees every single day. Lets just say it is HOT in the shop until around 9 at night. Kinda makes it slower getting things done in the high heat and humidity. But that's OK I suppose. There's no deadline for completion. I just hope this thing starts/runs/drives :)

To anyone going with Line-X (or a similar material), here's a tip that will save you tons of time: any bolt hole, threaded or otherwise needed later on? Put an old bolt in the opening BEFORE Line-X. The people at Line-X use a grease gun....any bolt hole gets a shot of white grease before the sprayed application. The idea is that the grease won't allow the liner material to setup in that location. It works sometimes, but, the grease is a mess, and sometimes it doesn't stop the liner from curing in that given location. I've had to tap out a bunch of threaded bolt holes and I could have saved myself a ton of time if I would have inserted old bolts in the holes prior to Line-X application.
