Heater cable diagram

Ever since I did the Chevy Blower upgrade, I haven't been happy with the heat. Did'nt ever really use it much since I hardly ever put the top on any how. At least til this year.

Driving it to work this morning, I decided to look at it a little bit. Found a door that isn't being opened so the fan is having to suck air in from the cracks which doesn't provide much air movement. When I open the door, I get hurricane force winds

So, does any one have a could diagram showing the cables and which doors are activated?

If I can get the cables working right so I have this tremendous heat available, I just may make the Scrambler my DD for the rest of the winter.

Hey, Kohldad. Are you talking about where each dash mounted cable connects on the heater box components? If so, let me know. I documented where each cable connected to when I removed them, but I do not have my notebook in-hand at the moment. I might even have a few photos from my tear-down of the heater. I, too, have been dissapointed with airflow in my unit...I am sure the cable routings on mine are correct but maybe we can help each other get better flow. I hadn't thought about a door not opening, always assumed it was a weak blower or just the nature of the beast. My first car was a VW Beetle so poor heater performance is something I recall from my past as a normal design for some vehicles and maybe wrongly assumed my Jeep was no different (ha-ha). If you figure it out in the meantime, please post your solution...It would be a nice feature to drive my Bessie without insulated gloves!

Sincerely,

I found the cable off the right most door control. When this door is closed (the door blocks off the opening at the passenger compartment) and the fresh air door is open (knob pulled out), the fresh air is now pulled across the heater core. With the temp knob pulled out, at 55mph, I now get more hot air naturally flowing across the heater core than ever before. With the fan on high, the cab warms up in a matter of minutes.

With the door open, the fresh air will just flow into the cab if the fresh air knob is pulled out.

Question I have, is with the passener door open, should the blower be moving just as much air or is it only designed to pull air through the fresh air duct?

Eek, I have to think on that one! What happens when the interior door is open (at right passenger door) and the fresh air knob is closed (knob in)? It seems, on first thought, that at driving speed the incoming air from the outside has a much higher velocity than the air flow produced by the blower and you are back flowing air into the unit. It sort-of makes me think that the fresh air vent is never completely closing in normal use (knob in). I will look at my unit this weekend (it is on my workbench) and see if I can make any sense of it. This theory goes along with my problem, too, though. She will normally heat up decent when I let it idle while I am in the house having a cup of joe, but gets really cold when I start driving. Maybe the blower is fighting the fresh air flow from an unclosed fresh air door? Again, if you have an insight, please let me know. Thanks, much.

Sincerely,

Eric...if you drive with the doors and windows closed, it will be much warmer in your Jeep...:D

Then turn the heater on, too...

I think the system is designed so when the heater is selected, outside fresh air feeds the heater core . When vent is selected, the right door closes off the heater and flows outside air into the passenger compartment. A similar door opens on the upper left by the column.

I bypassed the factory cables and added an individual cable for each door. I can now close the outside fresh air, and halfway open the right flap, and get recirc air heat. It heats up really fast- but doesn't help much to dry the air for defrost. The best advantage of separate cables is i can open the left fresh air door for me and still get heat for my wife!

And I thought just putting the top on would be enough. Silly me.
