Hi All, I have loved the Scrambler since I was a kid, I put a search out for one a few years back and found one that was out in the Palm Springs desert for 20 years not running. Great news is that the dry sandy conditions kept the body in perfect shape. I brought it home and completely rebuilt it from ground up. It was quite an adventure as I have never done anything like this before! Thought I'd share a few pics and get into this forum now that its done (well I don't think I'll ever be done tweaking it) but its smog approved by California and driving straight down the road. some before and after pics.

Thanks appreciate it! I look forward to seeing how your build progresses, so much fun. I got addicted to working on it.. thought my wife was gonna leave me! haha

Damn that is a nice build. I couldn't hep but notice a couple sweet bicycles in the back ground as well. I ride street and mt bikes myself but I typically trail ride now more than street.

Hey thanks man! Got any pics of your Jeep? Yeah I do a bit of both riding, some great stuff here in the Bay Area. My favorite is demonstration forest!

Damn. Nice! What engine did you shoehorn in that bay? Looks very professional...tight. Bravo Zulu!
Thanks for the comments, super happy with how it came out! I put a crate LS3 in with 4L65E tranny mated to the original Dana 300 transfer case. Custom built Dana 60 rear 4.11 with Detroit locker.

Are you running a stock front axle?

You running a lift?

How is the clearance between the transmission pan and the front driveshaft?

Been lots of discussions on how to use a 4L60e and a D300 together. I assume the pan is the same on a 4L60 vs 4L65 vs 4L70 vs 4L75 vs 4L80 vs 4L85?

2.5” old man emu yj springs with rocky road outfitter shackles/conversion. Lift is minimal. For the trany I do know the 60/65/70 are same not sure about the 85, I thought it was a bigger unit. You do have to modify the tranny oil pan to clear the drive shaft. I used Novak’s pan with the notch. And by clear... it BARELY clears, 1/2” tops maybe just 1/4”. And it’s VERY tight with the exhaust running through also. When I first was mounting it all up I thought no way was it going to work. The ujoint shoulders on the drive shaft matter. One side had a deeper shoulder on the ujoints I had to run it the other way. I used tattons drive shafts out of Utah. The d300 is clocked to roughly stock angle. If you want it flat it won’t work with this build. I am using stock D30 axle up front which is temporary. Changed to 4.11s and true track but left stock axles. The tiny pinion won’t hold up to the 430HP over time but I do have to say I absolutely ripped it in pismo dunes a few weeks ago and nothing broke. I even had to pull my 23,000 lb RV out of the sand. Had tons of axle hop but it gripped super good yanked it out of the soft dry sand. I was so proud! Haha

I’m happy to post a few pics of her belly if interested

Sure is a nice build. I bet that sucker is QUICK. ?
Yes she absolutely tears it up, but I don’t gun it much. Something on that scrambler frame will break. It’s probably not straight anymore after a couple wide open throttle accelerations. Haha Truth be told only reason I did the ls3 crate was it’s the only way to get a Chevy v8 smogged in an engine change in California now days. I was hoping to do the 5.3L truck vortec but now you can’t even reprogram the PCM and pass the BAR referee. If anyone is contemplating doing a swap in California, let me know and talk to the ref. It’s very difficult and has changed in the last 18 months

I’m in the process of beefing up the frame on mine with the front and rear plates mainly due to the excessive HP I hope it will have. I personally think you went the right way with the LS3, go big or go home! Only other option would have been the LT4 :evil::evil: 640HP, 630 LB/FT.

Yes, it is actually an original evaporator housing unit for the CJ7/8 from those years, I bought it on eBay for $125 and rebuilt it with new evaporator and fan. I used parts from Jeep air to plum it to the LS3 compressor and also used their condenser, hosing and fittings which I measured up and crimped myself. It all worked out great. Jeep air does sell an entire kit which does look original but pretty spendy.

im on, east coast haven't seen factory air in cj new it looked to good to be aftmkt nice!
