I almost sold my Scramblers...

I'm feeling really bad. I haven't been up here much lately, haven't done much with the Scramblers lately, and thought perhaps I should sell them. I even started working a deal with one of the members on this site, but now I'm rethinking the whole thing and feel like an A-hole for even thinking about it. I've had a chance to meet many of the folks on this site over the years and I've got to tell you that I haven't met a bad apple yet. You guys are great and I think I'd miss the Scramblers too much, but was thinking that they at least would be going into good hands.

One of my Scramblers has a bad engine and hasn't started in over a year, I think it's time I set myself a time limit, and if I don't get it running, it should go.

Don't sell, you can always let her sit till you get the time (or interest) in repairing the engine. Easier to keep than to find another good one.

One thing I've learned over the years is that you don't need to make a decision like this in haste, not that you have. Give it some time and real thought. I've thought about selling one of mine, but I haven't. It can't be replaced for what I have in it (no surprise) and when I drive it, and work on it, I'm relaxed, and relaxing. We need outlets. Jeeps are my outlet. Maybe it's the weather, maybe its something else. But, give it some time and see if you feel the same way over time. Just my thoughts.

Absolutely disagree. Setting any kind of time limit given what life throws at us is silly.

Think about this, if you swing from one side to the other on the Love it/Hate it spectrum over time (and we all do), you still have the Love it side to think about. If you go and sell in the Hate it side of the cycle, there is no more chance at the Love it. You're done.

I personally don't think that there's anything at all wrong about not having it running and not trying to work on it, we all can burn out and it just makes things that much sweeter when you get back into it and take that first drive.

The rebuild after my accident took WAY longer than I wanted, while I never thought about selling, I definitely hated myself for not getting it back on the road sooner. Eventually I accepted that everything happens on its own time and the first trip to the ice cream store with the wife and kid was epic.

Glad you posed up here to get some encouragement

I let the postal sit for almost three years after the first engine replacement puked after one year of driving it before getting another engine for it. I was so mad at "it" that I didnt even want to think about another engine swap.

I hear you. My "quick rebuild" has streched on for over 4 years now! I lose interest a lot and have a hard time getting motivated to keeping working on it but I love the feeling of completing small projects on it. I know one small project at a time will get it done. Hang in there.

My cj7 went through two rebuilt engines (that were built wrong and lasted less than 2000 miles). It body went through two rebuilds (sand blasted frame on first, new frame on second along with new engine on second). Yes, that's 3 engines. Now I'm too busy in the summer to drive her (only 2000 mi. in 4 yrs.). The cj8 I'm building now won't have a engine much less 35" tires for probably 3 more yrs. It's discouraging, but when it's done it's the world. What a accomplishment that you'll never forget. Don't give up because of time and interest.

Do not give it up, I had great ambition's with mine to get it on the road as a daily driver as well, and still have not managed to get it there in 3 years. It is running smoother and looking better, but still some odd noises. I have thought to let her go as well, but like you, know I would hate to let go. I still feet horrible I sold the first one, and it was for a reason. Just cannot do it again, it will be alright, just give it time, with no limit.

I am just down the road if you just want to move it out of view to think it over.

Unless it's a financial issue, I say keep them. Can't put a price on sentimentality

Thank you all for the kind words...I will keep them for now for sure. They have good bones and it's getting harder to find rust free Jeeps from the early 80's these days. I am however going to sell the minivan, does anyone want a really nice low mileage 2010 Town and Country with all the bells and whistles? It's a real head turner, all the chicks dig it.

I will write the dissenting opinion-- Sell... :)

I sold my old Bronco a few years back, the one I drove in High School, it was beautiful, XLT, Lariat, like a time machine, gets compliments all over town. I do not regret it one bit. I had that truck for 29 years, it was time to let someone else enjoy it.

We do not own these things, we only take care of them till the next person, they are only "material possessions".

In my case selling the BKO freed up space to lengthen the Jeep and work on other projects. Take your time and think about it, go for a drive, but if you are not having fun with them then I am all for selling them and doing something else. Life is a Journey.

That is kind of where I was at when I was thinking about selling them, but then I started thinking that life is too short to not have a Jeep to drive around in and enjoy....

I agree, what I left out was my Jeep is here to stay, running or on jack stands, I have no intentions of letting it go, (knock on wood, never say never). Glad you came around.

I don't ever plan on getting rid of the Scrambler. One way or another it will be in my Jeep fleet till I either die or it gets passed on to my son (or both). If I get sick of it, it will sit on jack stands until I'm ready for it again. The way I look at it, it's paid for and it doesnt cost me anything to have it sit. If I sell it, I know I would have to build another and that will cost me WAY more than what it cost me to build this one. All that being said, I will have other projects as soon as my new shop is built, and knowing me, I probably wont get rid of those either...

My wife is always saying (even when we were dating) that l''ll be buried in the jeep.:rotfl:

Have you considered doing the SUPER RARE Town and Country engine swap. It's so rare, it might even be a first! I think to really capture the essence you would have to add third row seating in the Scrambler.

I was having trouble figuring out how to have the TV screens drop down from the Scrambler ceiling.
