J8 Coming?

I heard from a reliable source yesterday that the J8 is coming to market in the US. I'm not familiar with the vehicle, or if it's really "news", but I thought I'd pass it along. (Fingers crossed for Jeep's survival)

Amen to that! I did read that they got access to enough loans to last awhile...or dig the hole deeper.:rolleyes:

The J8 is a JK style Scrambler...imagine a new Wrangler unlimited with only the front doors...

I'd read an article in Diesel Power mag that said the overseas models had the diesel engine, one would hope they'ed let us have one too!

old news... pretty much EVERY vehicle overseas has a diesel engine option... :(

I was flying back to Michigan bright and early this morning and picked up a copy of the April edition of Four Wheeler...I am sure some of you have already read it but there was a little blurb about the J8 on page 15 encase any of you wanted to read it...sounds pretty cool. Did I read it correctly that it will come stock with a Dana 60? and a 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine? Wicked coooool :D

The diesel options has more to do with our considerably more stringent emissions than their smarts. Most of the diesel engines that are sold overseas simply can't make it in under our standards and developing a new diesel for just our market doesn't make sense.

I saw in the latest Petersen's that Mopar will sell you the 44/60 combo out of the J8 right from the dealership and the nicest part is that they're disc brakes and set up for 5 on 5.5" wheels already. Front had the diff on the wrong side and is set up for coils, but the rear is leaf-ready and would be a prety simple operation to fit under an 8 :thumbsup:

Isn't that the truth. BMW has won the "Engine of the Year" award for the past five years, with a 2.0 liter turbo diesel that easily outperforms the modern hybrids; it even outperforms the tiny hybrids when installed into a four-door sedan! Everyone here has likely heard of the 65mpg Ford that cannot be purchased in the U.S., due to emissions standards. BMW, Volkswagon and Mercedes are all introducing (or have already introduced) clean emission diesel engines for the U.S. market. If U.S. manufacturers don't get on board soon, and forget about silly electric cars, I'll be buying an import in the near future. It eventually all boils down to their "smarts".

Oh, and the U.S. is the world's bad-guy for not being part of the clean-world treaties, and such. Yet, we self-impose all these environmental standards that diminish many cost-efficiencies of normal day-to-day life.
