Well it is now official Jury Duty the next 4 months!
I am not a happy camper. I even told them I absolutely did not want to be there and was not a patient man to deal with all their hurry up and wait crap. Seems more than half our time so far has just been waiting on judges and lawyers. They don’t seem to have a care in the world for our time.

The judges clerk was handing out our days off schedule, I told her I would hurry up and get home and get the next 4 months ripped off my calendar and replace it with that schedule. That screws up my trip to Clayton for the fall run, the schedule for that week we have Monday and Tuesday off and have to go the rest of the week, what crap.

Another day we have off is Monday 9-17 for Concreto.
What the Hell is Concreto?????

Just had to do a little venting I am very pissed about the whole deal.
Think I’ll go throw down a few cold ones to take off the edge.

These lawyers and judge can even get out of bed and get things started early. Start at 10:30 tomorrow, most working people have over a half of day in by then.

I don't know, I spent six months on a grand jury, yet somehow I lived through it. I heard a lot of very disturbing testimony in there, things that made grown men cry right in front of me, but we were doing what we were supposed to be doing and I didn't hear anyone complaining.
I admit, I don't much like spending time around lawyers, but it's our system, and it's the only one we've got.

Sucks for sure...

They never seem to pick me, (now watch, i'll get picked), FOUR MONTHS!????

I have to agree with the post above, it's our only system and it can work well but because of all the crap you mentioned, it doesn't work well many times.

You could act crazy or like a bigot, but i guess it's too late now that they picked you! :banghead:

Welcome to Our World

BWAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

You think it's hard on YOU to have jury duty for 4 months? Lawyers have to deal with all of your gripes 12 months of every year! Welcome to our world! I think this is actually like being welcomed at a prison (like a thanks-for-nothing situation)!

On a serious note, I am sorry it'll derail your life for the next 4 months. If you have any legit gripe about any of the matters you're asked to ajudge, state it, if your belief/opinion is adverse to either party, you can bet one of the lawyers will ask to have you exempted.

Just geussing but I bet everybody that will be in the court room except the jurors will make more than $10 a day. I know my days are sure worth more to me.

Maybe if it were a criminal case instead of a civil suit I may feel different and maybe I will feel different after hearing all the evidence on the case. I'll make the best of the situation even though I am upset now.

thats the thing, they pay us $10-$15 a day and the lawyers get paid hundreds/day. i know its my civic duty and all but come on, a lot of employers do not pay you while you sit on a jury. and $10/day barely covers your lunch.

i feel for you chief! good luck

When I was on the Grand Jury for about 2 months(out of four), I finally ended up having to tell the Judge at the end of one of the days that I did not want to bail out on them but it was effecting my lifestyle since I worked on commission alone and had already had lost quite a bit of money serving. The Judge said thanks for my time and I was released. I don't know what you do for a living but they are considerate up to a point.

It used to be that anybody that didn't get paid while on jury duty could get released, but the last time I was down there everyone that tried that excuse was told to produce their financial records to prove they would suffer a hardship. Fortunately, my company pays, so that wasn't a concern for me.

i was taught its our duty, and I believe that it is. However, I also believe that not only hasn't the pay for jury duty, but the responsibilty for us as "peers" gone out the window. I don't consider myself narrow minded, with that aside, most of these cases should not require that as jurors we need to be there for FOUR months. I feel your pain. I was put in that situation twice while I was in school and I was dismissed.

A friend of mine has tossed the jury summons' in the trash for 30 years now. No repercussions. I'm kind of torn on that one.

I sat on a jury in a criminal case, the trial part was fine, the deliberation (two days) was one of the experiences I'd most like to forget of anything I've ever done.

A couple of the people in that room with me were the biggest morons I've ever come across and I still think that one of them should have said something about a past situation that came to light in the room that would have COMPELETELY eliminated them from the jury on that case... tore the rest of us up to try to deal with/around her.

One of the singlemost infuriating experiences of my life, seriously. If there's any justice in the world I'll never get another jury duty notice after that hell on earth...

I feel for you. My company now won't pay, it would break me to be on jury for that long... damn.
