MDJuan Tubs

IMO the market for them is a few dozen, tops. Everyone wants something until it's time to pay up for it. Seen it happen over and over and over here.

There is absolutely no chance in the world that anyone could ever make money doing it in anything other than low-production fiberglass. Matt (forum owner) and GR8TOPS would be rolling in money anything close to 10k people -- even 1k -- wanted replacement bulkheads.

Consider that, of all of the Scramblers left, a significant fraction of them aren't even interested in running the bulkhead.

I agree the number is small... I was trying to show the ultimate top number that might be able to receive one and even at 10K, I think it was high, but even at that amount it isn't worth it.

I am curious about the the changes to the MD Juan products. I have gone through the entire thread and would like to know if anyone has any experience with the products and changes that were discussed in the threads. I know that I am very late to this thread but I have only had my CJ8 for about a year and the body is not getting any better and the rust is relentless!

I bought the rear quarter panels ~ 2 years ago.
Took a deal of work to fit the RHS - the top bead didn't match on the RHS and needed some judicial welding, the areas around the wheelarch were beaten by one eyed gorillas or something and needed bonus filler. That said it was way better than my attempts at welding patches would have been.
I'd do it again, no choice really.

I bought the MD Juan CJ8 tub 4 months ago from a supplier in Indiana after giving up on my original 84. I compared the changes Rommel shared in this thread to the replacement I received and it checked out without making a frame trial fit yet. Starting this weekend breaking down the firewall and dash on original. Will be weeks before I bolt on to my frame, but will post after I accomplish for others wanting to know what they are getting into post improvements since no one has commented here since implemented I can confirm the holes for the battery tray are missing as are the mounting holes for the heater. Possibly missing some wiring holes where rubber boots should be. I will list what all I uncover. Certainly has some warps in firewall metal where the battery tray mounts and blemishes under risers for seats. The rest looks straight. Not sure if those blemishes are usual or luck of the draw on each tub made. This won’t be a perfect project so doesn’t give me much heartburn.

Mancunian & JSowell, Thank you for the responses. Good luck with your build. I would appreciate any information that you may want to pass along. My Jeep needs all of the floors replaced and the driver side replaced. I am just trying to decide if a whole new tub will be less than trying to fix my existing body. Thanks again.

I have one of these tubs. I am paying a shop to do a frame off restoration. I will try to update this thread if I come across major errors with the tub

Is this topic dead I'm interested in a CJ8 Postal build?
Dead in what terms? People are still buying these tubs and still finding tons of issues.

I've been "ready to start" a rebuild on my Postal for about 5 years but keep nursing it along. I think I've decided that the only way to go with it is to fix the stock tub with patch panels and sheet metal.

Remember, with the postal, the firewall is all wrong on these replacement tubs, so you have to factor in the PITA of swapping your firewall into the replacement.
