Back in August I found this '82 Scrambler on eBay. After watching & a little luck I won it for $6100.

Of course its buyer beware, I was told it ran & was in better shape then it was. When it was delivered from Illinois, I had to pop start it & it barely ran. I was lucky to get it in the garage. After a starter, alternator, carburetor and complete tune up she lives. The old Iron duke runs great for what it is. Then started the oil leaks and the first tear down.

I continued to remove the entire front clip and the drivetrain and went through all the wiring. The list was growing. Ball joints, bearings, all linkages were shot. Manual brake system leaking everywhere. This poor Jeep was a mess.

With it being taking apart I cleaned and treated the frame coated it with chassis coat replaced all the brake lines. Replaced all rubber hoses and vent lines. Fixed all the electrical connections on the transfer case & transmission. I even treated the underside of the body cleaning it, degreasing it , treating it with Osfo and painting the underside. This is a preservation not a complete rebuild. I replaced the front fenders and grill due to the amount of rot. I fitted the new pieces and send them out to paint.

I've been tore apart the iron Duke motor, I was amazed how clean the inside of this motor was. I re gasketed the motor replaced water pump & thermostat and painted it and reinstalled it.

The old girl runs like a champ, still wish she had a straight 6 but for flat ground Florida it will be fine for now. It's amazing how much needed to be replaced, but it is well worth my time & money to keep this Scrambler on the road.

I saw that one on Craigslist. I thought it looked like a good project and was a tempted to go look at it. But my wife would absolutely kill me if I showed up with another jeep right now.

Looks great, what you are doing. I really like how you went back to the stock flares too! :headbang:

the tub looks really good...was it redone at some point? It was from Illinois which normally spells a ton of rust but perhaps it was from somewhere else before that? I think you got a great buy...mechanicals are easier than rust repair :)

I really like the stance with the 31" tires & stock flares. The Jeep came with a brand new 2.5" suspension lift, 1.5" shackle lift & 1" body lift/ mount combo.

This is what I know of the history, the guy I bought it from bought it from a guy in Pennsylvania, who sprayed it with a half assed bed liner. Then the guy in Illinois removed it and covered it with black primer.

The only rot I found on the tub was the floorboards & beneath the rear action of roll bars by the tailgate. I had the floorboards replaced already.

All n All, the tub is in great shape. I do want to change the rear cross member on the frame. I thought I saw a member here was selling them laser cut & made of 3/16 steel. If anyone can help me find him I'd appreciate the help.

Looks great! Are you planning to paint it all blue?

Yes, it will be all blue. I painted everything I've replaced so far. Unfortunately it looks like it came from Jamaica at the moment.
