My 85' Restoration

Man, that black paint looks good! Are you painting this yourself or is a local shop painting it?
Their doesn't seem to be many black Scramblers around. Are you planning on doing any of the Scrambler specific decal packages? Can't wait to see it complete. 👍
I have a restoration shop doing all the work. My world is way to busy with work and kids to try to take that one on myself nor could I have done this high quality of a job with it.

I do want to do the 85’ decal package, but the boss likes it clean with out them. She lets me have my fun, so I guess I have to listen 🤣🤣

As I’m getting ready for the next stages of work on the scrambler, I’ve got a couple questions on the history of the Jeep. I believe it came with a factory tonneau cover and factory Whitco roll bar covers. Both are showing their age, and I’ve found a guy that can remake/repair them to match the originals. Before I do, is there a way to confirm them. They were on the Jeep when I purchased it in 96’ and the owner said he hadn’t modified it other than the larger tires.

Thank you, then the same as the three hooped chrome bumper.
Yeah, do you have a copy of that year’s Jeep special equipment catalog? That’s where it came from. The cover and bar cover I’m sure about. The bumper is most likely in there.

I don't, I'll have to see if I can track one down. Thanks!

@jerseyjeeps is the man for this kind and f question and I know he can tell you precisely. I am 99% sure that’s where they’d come from but those kind of stock/dealer details aren’t my specialty.

From what I can tell in the pictures, the rollbar pad was made to fit your scrambler, or they took the foam out of an aftermarket one to get it to fit. The Whitco one would have a different stitch pattern than shown, and also was for a 5 or 7 so wasnt designed to fit an 8 since the bar Is 3” vs 2.5”.

the T cover looks a bit more like Whitco design, but is missing the Whitco Stamp on the passenger side, so therefore to go along with the theory that your RBC was made, maybe this was made at the same time. Another possible theory is the Whitco stamp, which is just screened on there, could have worn off over time, but its pretty unlikely to be completely gone.

Thank you for the insight, its a huge help. I know I am going to rebuild the tonneau cover, but I really do love the gloss black on the roll bar so I may just keep that as is now. I'll save the Roll bar pads and maybe put them at a later time. Thanks again

He’s wrapping up the paint on the hood, windshield frame, and tailgate. Then he needs to wet stand it after that. Once that’s done I’ll take it back and wire it, and get the DSs made and exhaust done. And then it’s time to to fire it!

Brought her back home last weekend for the first time in two years. It was good to see it out in daylight again.

On the way home, we made a stop at the exhaust shop to get a custom dual exhaust built into it.

Then it was back home. It was a momentous day, even my local police chief stopped by to give me a hand.

And back home finally. Now for me to do my scope. Wiring harness, dash, drive shafts, and a few other items. Once I have those complete, it will go back to Rob for final polish and engine start up. Then we’ll need to work the bugs out of her. But it’s great to see it in my garage again!

The look on the driver's face says it all and I love the shotgun rider making sure they're on track!
