As I upgrade/replace worn out steering components on my Jeeps, the Borgeson steering shaft is always on the parts list. I am running three of them right now and have another on the shelf ready to go for the next Jeep. I also do the H1 Hummer steering box upgrade, MORE steering box mount, and MORE steering box brace at the same time. Don't forget new power steering lines while it is all apart. I do not cut a new recess for the set screws on the steering column and steering box as indicated by the Borgeson instructions. Instead, I position the set screws in the absolute lowest portion of the original recesses on the column and steering box. Make sure your steering wheel and everything is in the correct position before snugging everything down with locktite. And don't forget to paint the new steering shaft before installing it!
I was about to tease you about how would you cut the steering column in half (just wasn't sure how you would take it). I replaced the steering shaft on the cj8 build with a flaming river shaft (have their steering column and they can come with fitting ends). Used theirs also on the cj7. Got their shaft with vibration damper. Here's the one without the vibration. I found that 30 yr vehicles have a lot of slop in the joints. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLA-FR1519PTLT/.

Couldn't take it. I had to do something. My new ebrake cables should arrive tomorrow. So I took the rear drums apart in preparation. I am glad I did not think I could reuse my old cables. Getting the hacked ones off of the backing plates on this axle required destroying the clamping part (technical term). Not sure about removing the cylinders yet. I want to look at the ones I have on my old axle when I have daylight to tear into those.

Yeah. That is what I was thinking. I have more than a little doubt. I have no idea if these worked before or not.
That's not your original axle so change them. Sure beats going to bleed the system and finding these cylinders leaking and having to pull the brakes apart to replace and then re-bleed again. Their cheap to purchase, a pain to have to replace later.

Picking up some new wheel cylinders at lunch today. Well worth the $20 for both wheels. May get some new shoes as well. Even though the ones I have on the old axle are only a year old and don't have that many miles on them. This way I can just finish them up in the garage without messing with taking apart the ones on the Jeep in the driveway. Let's see if I can get the drum brakes put back together ......

Still waiting to get those dang cables. UPS guy decided not to finish his route yesterday and took it back to the distro center. UPS is closed today and tomorrow so they rescheduled for Monday!!!! I am picking it up myself on Saturday morning so that not all 4 days are wasted.
In the meantime, I took the cable from the pedal to the equalizer (and the equalizer) off of the old frame and put them on the new one. I also painted the tranny crossmember (insert jokes here) and picked up new bolts to mount it.
Went ahead and started pb blasting the body mount bolts and roll bar bolts. I will keep doing that for a while.
Here are the pics of the little progress made today.

Today I mounted the crossmember. Of course the holes did not line up exactly so I had to elongate the holes a bit.
I also cut the stuck sway bar off of the old POS and have it ready to reinstall. Just need to go get some new bolts.

Thanks Jim. Gonna lay out in the cold and get the drive shafts removed this weekend. Hopefully. Also hope to get the e-brake cables tomorrow.
Does anyone know which cable goes into which hole on the equalizer? I forgot to take a pic. Does it matter? I know the driver side wheel cable goes into the lower hole on the frame bracket.
