My De-Rustification Project

Dang. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but there is still a good bit left to do.
 
You'll have her on the road before summer (unless your doing major changes and need additional parts). Just a lot of labor and time. That's the part I like doing, painting etc just takes forever. Waiting for cash to finish is even worse.

The plan is to have it on the road by the end of February. And no. No big changes. Got some seals to deal with and weld the plates for the glass tub mounting locations. Then try to remember how to put this whole thing back together. ;)
 
Glad I could help. It was fun and I certainly learned a lot as well. I also got to witness the rarest of unicorns... A successfully "ez outed" broken motor mount bolt

Thanks for posting that. I forgot about it. It was the first time I had ever had one come out as well. Of course, if it were me doing it, you still would be without ever witnessing it. Richard had a lot of patience.
 
Looks like you had a few of those around your drive the other day ;) good times. Suitably lubricated along the way I presume?

We had tools and parts all over the place. Cleaning up was fun. As was "where are those flywheel bolts". "Over in the flywheel section of the driveway". Of course.

Since I started at 8 and the guys started joining at 9, it was pretty much coffee then waters and soda. But someone had a few Dos Equis along the way.
 
So I did some small things today. Moved the exhaust over, connected fuel lines, added the last two brake lines (from calve to mc) removed the filler hoses from old tank and went to put them on the 20gallon tank, but it looks like I need bigger hoses. Also finished bolting up the motor mounts.

The last thing I wanted to do but have not yet is to replace the output shaft seal on the t176 before I mount the transfer case back up. Anyone got any pointers to get the old seal and get the new seal back on? I don't want to mess anything up so I was not being aggressive with it.

I am having a hell of a time with my output shaft seal. This thing is a pita. The seal puller I picked up at the store is a piece of crap and is all bent up. So I borrowed a tool from a friend that has a hook on the end and has a chunk of steal welded to it to whack with a hammer. Tried it a little bit tonight and it is bending the seal and the hook is just slipping out. This dumb seal is not coming out. And it is now all marred and needs to come out for sure.
 
Try a slide hammer. That is what I had to use to get my Dana 300 output seal out. Can drive a screw into seal, and pull on it.
