Well for some reason this spray and the spray of the roll bar came out a bright white where the other sprays came out a different shade. Only thing I can think of is I had the shop temp at the top range for the reducer and it came out on the dry side (a little sandy texture). I wet sanded the same but it going off that quick must have changed the color a shade (my guess). So unfortunately I started pulling lights and tail gate. Started taping to re-shoot the jeep. This stinks.
I would love to agree, unfortunately the paint, reducer used are from the same gallon containers. My guess is the reducer was at it's top end (temp) and was drying as it was being sprayed. My guess, hope I'm correct and will drop the temp. Otherwise people may be hearing some bad words from the shop. It is what it is! I can only laugh at it and learn
Took apart the lights and tailgate and got everything taped up to paint the rest of the jeep again. Also got the hood set up. Sanded where I am going to paint. Degreased and ready to paint.
Had one little accident. The cups cap popped off, luckily it was after I painted one section of the hood and was walking around to paint the other. First time I ever I must not have had the lid pushed completely on. I got very lucky.
Thanks Guys, it gets a little down heartening when something doesn't go right and you have to redo (especially when talking over 10 hrs or so worth). Today I pulled the tape (worried about it lifting the paint under it and the paint sprayed over it lifting the new paint). Also wanted to see any problems with over spray. All looks good except at the rear tail light, I some how had a piece of the tape come up and cover the tub (about 1/8" by 1"). You can see the difference of color similar to the corner and side pics above. I'll see what it looks like after the wet sanding.
After pulling the paint I decided to paint the vinyl dash. Ruffed it up and sprayed the adhesive promoter on. Painted it using the Rust-oleum vinyl paint (flat black). Looked good when done, just need to see how it drys. Sprays heavy so it's hard to put on light coats.
I mounted the dash. Was going to paint the letters but decided to see how it looks done. Started wet sanding. Beginning with the glove box door, vent cover and tail gate. Got the hood a third of the way done.I don't mind body work, but I hate wet sanding and buffing. Too easy to screw up.
Completed wet sanding the cj8 today. Also started taking apart the original windshield. Previous owner did a good job on a fix of the driver side pivot (where it stripped the frame out). Actually took the time to notch a v in the washers. Pulled the back plate to the wiper motor and the inside windshield hinges. Only minor rust so sanded and hit with metal prep. Called my windshield guy to set up installing the glass. Also put a order in for a Dynabrade Orbital Attachment for the grinder. From what I've heard that should help with the swirl marks.
Over the last week I had the glass guy over to install a new windshield. Also got the windshield brackets painted and the engine mounts drilled and mounted.
On the windshield frame I also installed the wiper assemblies (with some new parts). On the wiper motor I pulled the small arm off and installed the wiper boy arm (will lower the wiper arms closer to the bottom of the windshield). I'll have to take pics of the windshield. Today I rubbed out the paint (wet sanded it a couple weeks ago) and started installing the lights and hinges and all. Pulled all the plastic off (starting to look like a jeep again).
Here's the pic of the windshield. Had to replace a wheel cylinder on the work truck so used it as a excuse to start bleeding the cj8 brakes. Got the MC bench bled and installed then tried to gravity bleed the system. Wouldn't bleed so I ended up using a vacuum pump to get the fluid to flow. After I got the fluid to flow it now gravity bleeds. Pedal still a little off so I'm going to pull the cj7 in and use her to supply the vacuum on the power booster.
i really like that white. i went back with the original tan on mine..but it was tuff.
i may have missed where you mentioned it earlier...is that the factory white or just a white you liked?
It's a gm white from the 70's and 80's. Dupont Centari enamel single stage. I always liked white since it doesn't show dirt (unless really dirty or someone writes on it).
