Never Ending Scrambler Build

Got the tailgate installed then moved onto the windshield hinges. Only mounted the bottom portion till got the air vent and the hood mounted. Installed the hood and ran into problems with the pass fender not aligning right with the grill. On the pass side the lip of the hood was even with the grill and if you were to look closely you would see the grill was a little forward of where it should be with the fender. Ended up drilling new holes in the fender to allow the grill back about 3/8". Really getting sick of these half a** chinese after market body parts. After getting that aligned I still need to move the grill just under 3/8" toward the drivers fender. You can see the gap on that side. I've already loosened the bolt for the grill mount and pulled toward the drivers side. Probably will end up cutting the body bushings to allow the bolt to slide toward the drivers about that amount. Got a chance to move the grill toward the drivers side. After market fenders won't align. I already had to drill new holes for the pass fender at the grill and cut the bottom trim. To move the grill I loosened the fender brackets at the firewall and the upper grill support rods. Then I cut the bushing to allow the grill to move to the drivers side while leaving the lip on the body mount (to keep the mount centered). P1090848.jpgP1090849.jpg
 
Got the grill centered. Hood still sits a little higher than the grill (need the bushings on the grill to be 1/4" high). Hood contacts fender in about the middle of the fender, I would have to lower the fenders where they meet the tub and raise the grill body mount. This would change the body line where the top of the fender meets the tub. Probably just get larger grill bushings. P1090850.jpgP1090851.jpg

If I remember the tank is 25 gal. Here's a few pics I have. Tomorrow I'll take a better pic from the rear. Is that a 40 gal tank. From what I remember it's about as low as mine?P1010145.jpgP1010146.jpg
 
I checked the sides of the jeep to make sure the fenders were in line with the tub and they are within a sixteenth of a inch. The side of the tub was off more than the fenders. I got the hood lift installed then went to put the windshield gasket on. The new one was very thick compared to the original. I cleaned up the original and put a coating of silicone sealant (what the glass guy uses on the newer style windshields). This should help seal the gasket to the windshield. I'm undecided if I'll put this on the tub when I install the windshield frame. I know I'll never drop the windshield frame so it may be worth it to coat the top of cowl for a better seal.P1090860.jpgP1090859.jpgP1090858.jpgP1090854.jpg
 
Thanks Jim, you reminded me of something I was going to ask. If anyone has their cj8 without a top on I would really love to get a measurement from the top lip of the windshield frame to the back lip of the tub. I'm going to be mounting the windshield frame and it would give me a start on where the frame should be. I reused the gasket so that should make it easier.

CJ8PY, here's some pics of the fuel tank. Remember I have the Rubicon Express 4.5" lift and it hasn't settled yet. Should drop the tank down a few inches when it's loaded and broke in. It sits about 2" above the rear axle now.P1090870.jpgP1090871.jpgP1090872.jpg
 
Got the windshield frame installed today. Also put the glove box doors new hardware on and mounted the door. Installed the defrost deflectors. Found out the hard way to install before adjusting the windshield. Had to drop the windshield frame for them to fit against the vinyl dash.:huh:P1090873.jpgP1090874.jpgP1090875.jpg
 
Very nice! The more I see this the more it makes me think that my next vehicle should be white :)
 
This week I got the flares and hood latches. Just need to get the time to install. While I had a few minutes I remounted the front bumper. Starting to have second thoughts on the bumper. Don't like the way it's mounted to the frame especially if I ever use the hitch part to pull her out of a jam.P1100038.jpg
