Coming in peace from the CJ5 side of things.

I’m looking at an 81 scrambler project that’s been modified and unfortunately not local.

It’s a project, I’m aware of that. I don’t love the frame patches but they seems robust. I ran the carfax - it was in southern Indiana before Texas, and stated life as a 4cyl.

Description: .304 V8. Rebuilt motor with approx 5000 miles on it. Brand new paint job finished 2 weeks ago. New painless wiring harness. Rebuilt from the ground up. T4 Trans and Dana 300. Need simple dash wiring and a few little odds and ends. In perfect running condition.

What do we think?

Transmission not a T4, maybe T18? Paint looks nice. Everything looks new . High teens seems fair

A lot of work done, seeing before and progress photos on how the rust was removed and repaired would be key to price if the plan is keeping more than two years…

If a t18, I wonder if it has a Dana 20 as that is easier/cheaper to swap in if it has a t18.

Is the plating on the frame for extra support or was it to fix a Swiss cheese frame? What part of the country?
If you get it, I would recommend a tailpipe to the edge of the body. My first CJ8 was like that and all the condensation from the exhaust really helped to rust the frame away, didn't help the body either. Mine wasn't near as clean as this either though(might not be an issue in drier climates).

Amc 20 rear, was talking about the transfer case.

Thank you for the help! Owner says the plates weren’t necessary but more support for the v8 swap… but hopefully before and after pics can verity that

“T4 Transfer case with Dana 300.” Is directly from the owners description. So I don’t know. I’ll ask
Owner clearly doesn't know what they are describing....d300 is transfer case....t4 would be trans. t4 would be relatively weak for a 304; but if you're careful it might hold up... hopefully t176; much stronger 4 speed; could see how non-car-guy owner could confuse.

That’s kinda what I was thinking as well. I’ll ask for pics
